Hello Cathy Mary and Colin have outlined where these can be found. I would add that the parishes of Kilmodan, Lochgoilhead, Inverchaolain, Strachur & Stra(th)lachlan and Kilfinan border(ed) one another roughly, so that various records for one family may be found in more than one of these parishes. Going on our own experiences, there was a fair amount of mobility between the parishes, with families moving or being moved - or simply one church being used at a particular time instead of another. Illustration: my 4 x great grandparents in one branch were both from the Glendaruel/Kilmodan area 1781, but married in Inverchaolain because the man was employed there at the time. Their children were baptised in Kilmodan, Stralachlan and even North Knapdale, plus one I haven't even found yet. Go figure! The parish records can be very helpful. Or not. At first I doubted whether these children were all born to the same people. Maybe the names were a coincidence. However, I ordered the records and the information on them enabled me to make sense of the family's movements and helped confirm the children were really all born to the same couple. I should add that the OPR were helpful because the minister or clerk at Inverchaolain and Kilmodan was obliging enough to record details of the family concerned, (e.g. indicating who was employing the man at the time). Many Stralachlan, Strachur and other records give no place of residence for a couple marrying, not even an OTP! This makes the records good to have for posterity, but not much help to us at all. Good luck in your search, Cathy. I'm not into McFarlans but if I come across anything that might tie in with queries on the Cowal area I'll try and get in touch.
