My forenames would likely be John whose father was most likely Hugh, based on continued naming pattern carried on in the family. The first middle name we have was b in late 1800s and was Hugh Alexander and there are no other Alexanders connected to our family or collateral families, as an fyi. It seems, John fathered a son, Hugh, in Halifax or Pictou, Nova Scotia abt 1790-1800 and could have been military up to 1787ish or not, but was in Nova Scotia for the birth of Hugh according to a land petition of Hugh's. Hugh eventually married into a family from Arran that arrived in Canada about 1828. Hope this helps.
