MacNeill of Carskiey was a landowner in Southend in the 18th century, and he kept a journal detailing the various transactions on his estate. The journal was transcribed and published in 1955 by Frank Forbes MacKay, a descendant. The book makes wonderful reading, and copies occasionally turn up on Abebooks, Amazon etc. The full details are: MacNeill of Carskey - His Estate Journal, 1703 - 1743 Frank Forbes MacKay Publ M McDonald, Edinburgh, 1955 To help researchers who might have relatives in the area, I plan to transcribe and post five pages from the book which list all the personal names and locations mentioned in the book. Mr MacKay's reasons for providing such a list are delightfully expressed, and I've extracted them below: "... I am aware of numbers of people now scattered over all the Earth who believe that their forebears come from the Mull of Kintyre. To such, should it meet their eye, this table may be of help in tracing their ancestry." Over the next week or so, I'll post five more messages which give all the details about the names mentioned in the summary. (Unlike last year, when I offered to do look-ups in another historical document, my contribution this year is confined to these posted messages.) Sarah Galbraith
