Hi, I have other Argyll ancestry but I have lately been reinvestigating my Ayrshire roots and after many years have found the birthplace of my ancestors. Elizabeth Dempster, According to the 1851 census she was born in Inverary. I have to admit this was not what I was expecting! I had assumed she was from Ayrshire or thereabouts as the Dempster surname is so common there. She died in New Cumnock in 1858. I can find no baptism for her in Inverary (and alas her parents names where not recorded on her death cert), but she would have been born around 1771. I don't necessarily expect to find her family but i would be interested to know if there where any Dempsters about in this time period in the parish of Inverary (or nearby). If anyone knows of any Dempster's in this parish I would be grateful to hear about them. I don't suppose there are any estate records/renatals for this area? Much Thanks Morag
