Hi Jean, I too am descended from Neil Campbell & Mary McKellar of Upper Shirvan. I wondered if you had seen the writeup of this site in Allan Begg's book "Deserted Settlements of Glassary Parish". He describes the site and lists a number of families who lived there over the years. If you have not seen this, please contact me offline and I will send or scan and send the pages describing Upper Shirvin. I also see in my notes I made from the Archives in Lochgilphead some years ago that in the "Rental of the Shirvan Estate - 1813" are listed Archibald Baxter, Archibald Campbell, Neil Campbell & Andrew Rowan. Rent 230 pounds 10s 0d. I am assuming this Neil Campbell is my family. I am curious as to your connection to Upper Shervin. Thank you Marcia I have a copy of Allan Begg's book but did not assoicate Shervone with Shirvin. My interest in Upper Shervone is John MacTavish born about 1783 of Upper Shervone, Glassary who married Catherine MacArthur January 16, 1808. As you will see on my other postings to the list today, I have McKellar ancestors from Kilmichael Glassary. Thanks for you help in suggesting Allan Begg's book.
