Thanks to all of you who are contributing to the various discussions of Scottish culturalk history. It is bot hinteresting and helpful, genealogically speaking. My Morrison GGgrandfather was a faramer and among other things a brewer of whiskey. His brother owned a tavern I am told. My question is, were most 18th century farmers in Argyleshire also brewers? That is, was this just a common thing that most farmers did (liked butchering hogs in the U.S.), or was it a more specialized activity, like "milling" perhaps?
