Hi everyone, I was hoping someone may be able to clear up a bit of a mystery for me. A while back, I got the microfilm of the Campbeltown Parish registers from my local LDS Centre and was able to find the baptisms of all of the children of James WHITEFORD and Mary MANN, except my GGrandfather Robert WHITEFORD. There were 8 children baptised before his birth and 1 after. Then today an uncle of mine gave me a copy of what looks like a baptism certificate for Robert which says he was born 13 Aug 1851 and baptised 25 Aug 1851. It says that it was registered at Campbeltown in Aug 1851 by the Session Clerk whose signature I can't read. Next to the baptism date there appears to be the name "John CARMICHAEL" followed by something that looks like an abbreviated form of "Minister". My questions are :- 1. If his birth/baptism was registered by the Session Clerk, why wasn't it in the Parish Register? 2. Was John Carmichael a minister of one of the Campbeltown churches in 1851? Any advice would be appreciated. Paul in NQ Australia
