If you've not already made headway down this road, I would add that even googling Strachur + Montgomery turns up an address for Cathy M who, I understand, still runs the Strachur Smiddy Museum these days and maybe even the post office. One of these days I hope to get round to mailing her myself on local family history. I'm sending this reply to all the addresses on your mail, as I'm unclear of the status of the one from which yours originated.
