Two new articles by Gene Lamont, a descendant of Tiree emigrants, have been added to his masterpiece work "They Came from Tiree" (a scholarly account of the history of Tiree from 7000 BC to the famine years and mass emigrations of the 1800s), on the Isle of Tiree Genealogy website at www.tireegenealogy.com. The new articles are "Tiree in the Viking Age", which reviews and interprets the impact of Viking raids and occupation on Tiree and other islands of the South Hebrides, and "The Lamonts of Tiree", which traces the rise and fall of Clan Lamont in mainland Scotland and the escape to refuge of Lamont 1640s Civil War survivors to Mull and then Tiree. Even if you are not of Lamont ancestry, this is an excellent account of a turbulent period in Scots history.
