The Oban Times - "The Regional Newspaper for the Highlands, Islands and Argyll" was first published, as The Illustrated Oban Times and Argyllshire Advertiser, on 1st July 1861 and copies microfiched, but not indexed, from that date . The Oban Times Group currently publishes the Campbeltown Courier which was first published in 1873. As far as I can ascertain there were no earlier Kintre papers. Prior to this time notable events in Argyll, and those of interest to those in Glasgow with Argyll origins, were picked up by the Glasgow Herald. Unfortunately, although published from 1st Jan 1783, the Herald is only indexed from 1889 onwards.
