Sheila asked > I have a girl born in 1818 in what looks to be Achnachoan, Lismore and > Appin. Achnachoan, Lismore and Appin (Parish) Could be : Auchnacone in Glencoe (GB Grid Ref NN 118 566) or Achnacone at Tynribbie in Appin (GB Grid Ref NM 948 460) Could she please give details of the girl and where the information came from. Regards Les
Les, if Sheila is looking for Auchnacone in Glen Coe, it may be easier to look it up under the seemingly current spelling Achnacon, which can be seen at the Grid Ref you give, about 2km SE of Glencoe. If this is the place that Sheila wants, I also would like to know this girl's family. My ancestors lived up the glen running south from Achnacon and would have passed through and known Achnacon as their nearest 'civilisation'.
