Hello List, I am trying to find out more details of the possible birthplace of GGG Grandfather John McKeich/McKeith. His 1803 marriage record describes him as 'of Arnigle' On the assumption that this is the same as Arnicle, can anyone tell me what would have been there in the late 1700's / early 1800's. Was is a farm, hamlet, village or what ? The reason for asking is that i can find no birth details for my GGG GF in any of the obvious sources, there are a number of other McKeith/ McKeich individuals that also appear to be "of Arnicle". So was Arnicle of sufficient size that there would be several families living there or is it possible that it would be just the one family with the same surname ( spelling variations excepted) ? Who would have been the landowner ? Duke of Argyll ? McAllister of Barr ? and are there likely to be any estate records publicly available? While I'm asking is there the same information out there for Killocraw, Margmonagach and Bealochantuy as these are the locations at which many of the children were born. My GGG GF was described as a Shepherd, what would have been his position regarding landholding - would he have been a tenant or something else? here's hoping someone can help thanks in advance keith leonard
