    1. [ARGYLL] MCPHERSON Lismore & Place names!
    2. The Logans
    3. Dear Listers I am tracing the family of Alexander McPHERSON and his wife Janet McPHERSON who lived in Lismore for a number of years (from at least 1851 to 1901). Alexander and Janet were both born on Carna. Alexander's parents were Donald McPHERSON and Mary McLEAN. Janet's parents were William McPHERSON and Sarah CAMERON. Alexander and Janet had the following children: (birth dates not all exact): Mary 1841, Ann 1841 Flora 1843 James 1845 Jane 1848 Angus 1851 Sarah 1853 Donald 1855 William 1858 John 1860 In 1851 the family lived in Lismore but l can't read the place name. It might start with So and ends with ry. Unfortunately the writing is very faint on the Scotlands People image. Through 1861-1881 they were at Crofts, Kingairloch. Alexander died in 1877, his wife Janet in 1889. Their daughter Flora remained at Crofts and was there when the 1891 census was taken with her two sons Hugh McColl (1870) and Robert McLean (1867). The boys were both illegitimate and possibly given the names of their fathers. Flora's sister Ann also appears to have had an illegitimate son called John McLachlan (1868). The last sighting l have of Flora and her sons is in the 1901 census when they stayed at South Cuiry? Does anyone know what this name should be? The neighbours in the census on either side lived at Gardel Cottage and Glensanda. Does the name Crofts mean they lived on a croft or was it a place name? Any information about this family or the places they stayed would be much appreciated. Best wishes Cathy Logan.
