Hi Listers Iain Thornber, who has, as previously advised, just published an update of the Rev Norman MacLeod's 19th century "Morvern Revisited - Reminiscences of a Highland Parish" under the title "Morvern: A Highland Parish" will, later this year, continue his books on Morvern Parish. The new book "From Time to Eternity" has entailed his recording the inscriptions (MIs) and designs of over 250 gravestones and will relate the history of Keil Church and Graveyard at Lochaline. The book will include, where possible, notes on all those mentioned on the stones cross-referenced with photographs, drawings, census material, births, marriages, deaths, obituaries, and local newspaper articles. The main families commemorated by the stones are : MacInnes, Cameron, MacLachlan, MacLean, MacDonald, Sinclair, Livingstone, Currie, Campbell, MacIntyre and MacMaster. Given the standard of Iain's previous book I'm sure this will not only be a great help to Family Historians/Researchers but also just a good read. Once Iain advises of its publication I will let you have details of its Publisher, price and ISBN No. Best Wishes Les

My sister died last spring. In going through her effects we found an old letter from our cousins in Scotland that was dated 12.11.46. As you can see it is quite old. It contained pictures of our cousins and some of their family members. I would like to trace them or their descendants if possible. The only address is 25 Polnoon Avenue, Glasgow, W., 3. If the family of either John or Peter Weir could contact me either by e-mail or at my home address I would be thrilled to her from them. Little brother of Catherine Thomas from Terre Haute, Indiana. My current address is: Keith Thomas 601 E. Hazeldell Ave. New Castle, DE 19720 e-mail address is : OwlElf@aol.com Any help would be appreciated. T^hanks
To All, Would the Caledoniam Canal have been the kind of project to attract workmen from various areas? I've been trying to trace McClardy ancestor from "between Fort William and Inverness" who, along with a brother attended an engineering school of sorts (allegedly in Inverness) prior to emmgrating to US around 1850's. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Kevin Jones Whitefish, Mt k.p.jones@centurytel.net
HI Les, The Caledonian canal was opened I believe in 1822, do you know if the Great Glen, from east to west was navigable by any kind of boat prior to the opening of the Cally? On Feb. 01/1998, Leslie Campbell requested information on subject and British Army in India - late 1800s. I have similar interests as Peter Campbells may be my uncle and grandfather. According to our family records, our Janet Leitch was "from Glenorchy", and married John MacKinnon around 1788. So I'm guessing she was the one christened 13 October 1771 in Kilchrenan (the next parish), daughter of Angus Leetch and Anne MacArthur. (This is from the IGI -- I haven't verified it yet with REAL records!) Siblings appear to be Effie, John, Janet, Donald, Anne and Peter. However, another Janet was born in Glassary, christened 14 July 1769. Maybe this is the family you are looking for?
