Maureen To the best of my knowledge, in the 19th century Helensburgh was in the parish of Row, Dunbartonshire. Others more knowledgable than I am may be able to say whether it was ever in Argyll & Bute. Anyone have a connection to MOODY/MOODIE. I *think* I've found my family, Alexander MOODIE b 1801 in Dunoon and Kilmun. Parents were Robert Moodie and Elizabeth Morison, m 1791. Siblings were Archibald, Elizabeth, Jane, Margaret, Robert, Janet and Grace. Alexander immigrated to New Brunswick, married 1828 to Margaret Morris, formerly of Argyll and their children were Janet, James, Alexander, Archibald, Thomas, John, Daniel, Margaret, and Alfred. All I've have to go on was his New Brunswick obituary stating he was from Argyll, died 1877 at age 77. Regards to all, Priscilla

Hi All This is very much a long shot and probably the cry of a desperate person. Is there by any miracle a list of Ministers for Argyll? My Gt Gt Gt Grandfather Alexander Cameron was born in 1829 in Druimviak and christened in the parish of Ardchatten. It seems the family moved after Alexander was born, most likely to Kilmallie (a guess). I have found from 2 different sources that he had an older brother Donald Cameron who was a Minister. I wonder if anyone on the list has connection with, or information about, my family: My great grandfather was Donald McIntosh b. Barr, Killean & Kilkenzie 23/5/1855 who married Catherine McNeill from Port Wemyss, Islay 5/6/1890 His father was John McIntosh who married Amelia (Mellie) McSporran (b. 28/5/1814 at Drumore K&K) at Killean Manse 11/12/1849. Amelia's parents were Donald McSporran who marr Janet McBryde K&K 3/4/1800. Mellie died at Ardminish on Gigha 15/1//1892 I am currently looking for Donald's siblings and information on Amelia's parents and family. Regards Iain
Penny If Donald Cameron was a Minister of the established Church of Scotland - and I appreciate that you probably don't know this - his biographical details will be in "the Fasti" (full title: Fasti Ecclesiae Scotticanae). This covers the whole Church of Scotland, not just Argyll. If he is there, and if the information is known, his parents, wife and children will be noted too. Contact me off list if you are unable to access this publication locally. Listers, in particular new ones . Please be aware that the following link DOES NOT work. It is not just a temporary clitch. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Park/8997/index.html an index to "THE INHABITANTS OF ARGYLL ESTATE" by Eric Greegan : Duke of Argyll's 1779 estate census However a microfilm copy is available at the LDS Centres. Their reference is film # 0844784. Regards Les
G'day I have missed the earlier discussion on Salachan and have not had any luck in getting into the map site but will keep trying. My map OS Landranger 49 of Oban & East Mull 1:50 000 shows in blue ( to show features like rivers, bays, lakes .. oops lochs) just to the west of Fiunary a Camas Shalachain imprinted on the sea, with a river labelled in blue entering the sea there Abhainn Shalachain and nearby (in black) a Dun Shalachain. There is a caravan park/camping ground at Camas Shalachain site as i visited the area to see Fiunary where my great grandfather John MCLACHLAN son of Dugald MCLACHLAN & Peggy CAMPBELL was born in 1832. If so, they may be in the following list of persons in ships : http://www.angelfire.com/de/BobSanders/Scotland81-4.html Once your in the site - if you page down to the bottom there's a link to the site for England. Best Wishes Les

There is also a Salachan, district of Ballachullish, (just west of Salachail on modern map) Regards to all, Anne McIntyre, Brisbane, Australia
