Hi Ian, Would you please see if there are any McAlonan or similar surnames listed? Thank you. Bob McAlonie
Hi Ian, also for Jane who queried my McKenzie line. I am sorry for not being more specific. Unfortunately I do not have a location, I am really just taking a stab at this. My forenames would likely be John whose father was most likely Hugh, based on continued naming pattern carried on in the family. The first middle name we have was b in late 1800s and was Hugh Alexander and there are no other Alexanders connected to our family or collateral families, as an fyi. It seems, John fathered a son, Hugh, in Halifax or Pictou, Nova Scotia abt 1790-1800 and could have been military up to 1787ish or not, but was in Nova Scotia for the birth of Hugh according to a land petition of Hugh's. Hugh eventually married into a family from Arran that arrived in Canada about 1828. Hope this helps. Much aloha, Lorna ----- Original Message ----- From: Ian Phillips To: [email protected] Sent: Friday, October 13, 2006 9:42 PM Subject: Re: [ARGYLL] lookup "Inhabitans of the Argyll Estates" Hi Lorna, There are many McKenzies listed. Glendaruel is in the Parish of Kilmoden, the parish church is in the Clachan of Glendaruel. I am researching a Weir family from this parish. Do you have any Weir on a twig of your family tree? Some very interesting connections there, though I'm not sure what to make of them yet. From his death certificate, Dugald seems to be the son of a 'ferryman' named Duncan McLachlan, while his mother was Margaret Livingstone. Thanks Andrew Simpson

Hi Sheila, Need your email address to address you specifically. I have two certificates in Kilcalmonell with Stewarts. IGI records an Alexander Stewart to David Stewart and Elizabeth McGill born 2 Mar 1798. There was an Alexander Stewart who md an Elizabeth McGill 1 Oct 1825 Kilcalmonell and Kilberry. The 2 cert I have relate to the latter Alexander Stewart and Elizabeth McGill. This Alexander Stewart is son of David Stewart as the entries pertaining to them mention a farm called (spelling?)...Reifliuch, Kilcalmonell. First a Charles McKinven md at Kilcalmonell and Kilberry, 23 Dec 1862 a Maria Stewart dau of Alexander Stewart farmer and Betsy McGill. A David Stewart is a witness and an Arch'd Smith. Later on, I have a cert for an Archibald Stewart son of Alexander Stewart and Betsy McGill died 1861 Aug 19th at Kilcalmonell. Alexander Stewart brother reg death. He was 20 so would be born abt 1841. Do you think these Stewarts might be related to you. The McFatters that I am related to are children of Neil McFatter and Ann Milloy. The children ended up in Kilcalmonell but started out in Killean parish. This Neil McFater b 12 Feb 1793 Killean and Kilchenzie to Archibald McFatter and Catherine Kerr immigrated to Puslinch Ontario Canada and died there in 1867. He md a Grace McKinnon who was widow of my relative Angus Blue. Any bells ringing? Where in Ontario did your Flora McFatter go to? Yes, Paton is interchanged with McFatter. I was aware of this. The name McFatter is not that common so I am sure we have a connection somewhere. regards, Jen --- Original Message ----- From: "Sheila Lafleur" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, October 12, 2006 2:29 PM Subject: Re: [ARGYLL] Attn,Sheila Lafleur Re: lookup "Inhabitans of the Argyll Estates"PATON/McFater > WOW I see alot of them were listed. > > hello Jen, good old spelling issues.
