That's a pity. You don't say what your name interests are. I'm getting nowhere either but remain here, and in other groups just in case, though I understand the way you feel. I stay because I may be able to help someone. Maybe its time to post name interests again for the benefit of new members? Hi everyone Katie, I'm with you, as a new lister I have only known this situation & have not been troubled by it. Rod Victoria, Australia
Please remove me from the Argyll list. I am getting nowhere with my posts and feel it is not worthwhile.
Hi Folks, Please stop posting all the comments to the list. We need to settle back into doing genealogy. . The changes to the way the list is handled were a surprise to me as well. I went into the options for the list and removed the "personalizing" of the unsubscribe message. Case closed on that one. . I don't have a clue on the second problem but... I can venture a guess....other lists are clogging up just like this one <wink> with the unheralded changes. The Rootsweb system is probably deluged. I changed the "reply to" option from list to individual. Let's see if that one helps. . After the holidays - NOT now - we will have a "roll call" for all members to post queries and surnames of interest. Be Well, Cathy DiPietro [email protected]
If you read the message at the bottom of your list mail it explains how to unsub. It is not the list admins job to do this manually. This is an automated process. \At 01:41 PM 12/4/2006, you wrote: >Please remove me from the Argyll list. Hi List I must apologise to Dr. Richard D. Culbertson as I honestly thought he was the cause of my e-mail address being posted in the Signature at the bottom of e-mails - and, looking at the number of postings on this subject, I bet I'm not the only one. However, I find that Rootsweb are making changes to the system without telling us users what they're upto. Many thanks to our List Mom, Cathy, for explaining what's going on. Once again. Sorry Dr Richard but it was your Posting to the List, & put out by the List, which started the rot with me. Hi Nigel et al, In fact at the bottom of Nigel's message that came to me there was indeed a line with MY email address telling me how to unsubscribe - so I think each of us gets his/her own automatically. Cheers, Mary

I noticed this too and think it is to tell you how to unsub when you want to - people keep writing to administrators to ask them to do it for them - or send messages direct to the list which is a nuisance. I think it must be a new thing in which each of us gets it with our own address on. But I may be wrong! Best regards, Mary

Hi List I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who this is happening to and I too have no intention of 'unsubscribing' from the Argyll List. I think Dr. Richard D. Greetings All, Your email address is inserted into an "unsubscribe" help message as a footnote to your email ONLY. No one else sees your version of the message. This is for your convenience only, it is not a request for you to leave the list. Your email address does not appear in the List Archives unless you posted the message yourself. Please direct any further comments or problems to me at [email protected] instead of to the whole list. Thank You, Cathy DiPietro [email protected]
Lorna, Jean and others, Like Catherine, I see that many Rootsweb lists show the 'how to unsuscribe' message, but they don't all include the subscriber's email address, so I'm at a loss to understand why some, including the Argyll one, do. Maybe the list administrator will look into this. At the same time, it may be worth noting that, no matter what appears at the bottom of a message, the full name and email address of the person posting appears in the Rootsweb archives for all to see - and use. Not everyone will be comfortable with that and I have my doubts myself. However, I've also made use of it more than once, to contact someone who'd posted a long time ago, so I think I'll take the rough with the smooth - all in the good cause of tracing my ancestors. Hi folks, I've no desire to leave the ARGYLL List at all - i enjoy reading it. Don't know why my name appeared at the bottom of the Argyll Rootswebs msgs, but i did very recently reply to a member of the GLASGOW Rootsweb. And i was rather surprised to my name at the bottom of the page there too. Hopefully Admin will be along soon with the explanation.
