Have you tried the www.freecen.org.uk for the 1841 census - many places are on there The scottish transcriptions on Ancestry are diabolical -- the folks are there but you have to be VERY lateral about potential spellings!!! Obviously www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk is the best place for scottish families but it has no graded payment scheme so it can get rather expensive. regards Jill Bowis www.benderloch.org.uk/forum - Ardchattan history, geology, ecology, genealogy, weather, webcam, local forum www.kintaline.co.uk - where we are, what we do: Kintaline Plant and Poultry Centre

    2. Michael, I have a copy of the Duke's leases (Kintyre) that were compiled by Duncan Colville that go back to the middle 1700s. Do you have any farms in mind to point me in the right direction? 3. Hi Christine, Seems the problem is mainly affecting Optusnet users. Though it's not of their doing - the fault was caused by earthquakes in the Taiwan area. It's been discussed on TalkingScot - http://www.talkingscot.com/ The actual forum page is at - http://www.talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7376&start=0 Hope things are resolved for you soon. 3. I couldn't find an email address on the site - the only thing you can do is submit a contact form which is useless if you can't get onto the site! This is the email address for the User group: [email protected] I would email them with your complaint and state how ridiculous it is NOT to be able to contact SP at a clearly visible email address. I was able to log on without any problems - but then I'm considerably nearer Edinburgh than you are! January 2 is a public holiday in Scotland which may mean that any technical problems have not been flagged by the technicians. When you can get into the site, contact them, and state when you purchased the credits and how long it was before being able to get into the site. 3. Is anyone on this list connected to, or researching David McPHERSON who married Jean/Jane/Janet CAMERON late 18teens or early 1820s? My wife's great great grandparents. They had known children: Alexander, July 1822 John, May 1824 Donald, November 1826 Mary, January 1829 Peggy, January 1831 Jannat (sic) May 1833 All baptised at Scotstown or Acharacle. Our particular interest is in Donald who the 1851 census describes as having been born at Kilchoan. We have his marriage (all 3 of them!), his children and their descendants but precious little on the rest of his siblings and his parents. We have yet to locate the marriage of David and Jane. The 1851 census gives Glenelg as David's birthplace and Morvern as Jane's. And that's as far as we've managed to get so far. Any help or suggestions would be welcome. 2. Scott Macpherson
    3. Hi Peter, I am also doing research on Macphersons in Adrnamurchan. Looking through my info, I have two death certificates of potential interest. Jane Macpherson, married to David Macpherson crofter. January 20th 1866 in Ariundle, Strontian (that's next to Scotstown). Age 72. Parents John Cameron, crofter, deceased and Mary Cameron maiden name MacLean deceased. "Debility from old age", No Medical Attendant. Alex MacPherson son present. David McPherson (Widower) Shoemaker. May 19th 1871 Ariundle, Strontian. Age 67. Father Alexander McPherson, crofter. Alex McPherson, son, present. It doesn't mention his wife's name. A third death certificate might show a brother to David I suppose, but all that connects them is a father named Alexander in Strontian: Alexander Macpherson, Lead Miner, Married to Ann MacPherson. February 28th 1865 Scotstown of Strontian. Age 63. Parents: Alexander Macpherson (Stone Mason deceased) Jessie Macpherson maiden name Cameron. Acute cystitis ten days. Allan? McPherson son present. For my own research, I am looking for information on a Donald Macpherson and wife, father of Hugh. Hugh had children with Catharine MacPhee, including John (ca 1802), Hugh (ca 1806), Duncan (ca 1794) and Martain (before 1794). I have some good leads (there is a Donald MacPherson and Christy MacPherson who might fit the bill as parents) but nothing definitive. John and Hugh were born in Sunart, and John was later in Achateny.
