    1. [ARGYLL] Neil Fletcher christened 1799 in Torosay
    2. Nigel Boundy
    3. Greetings fellow Listers, Does anyone know what happened to Neil Fletcher christened Oct 6, 1799 in Torosay? Parents john Fletcher and Mary McPhee. I have done searches in 1841, 1851 and 1861 census records looking at all Neli / Niel Fletchers born between 1790 and 1810 in order to eliminate them from the search for my ancestor Neil Fletcher born about 1801 according to the 1841 census in Banffshire but, he was not born there. He died before 1844. No burial records are extant. I had the Kirk Session Records checked for any mention of Fletchers and mortcloth fees without success. I suspect that the Neil from Torosay may be my ancestor but, I have no proof. If anyone can help I would be grateful. TIA Regards, Nigel Boundy Western Australia Researching: BOUNDY, BICE, COATE, DODMAN, DOHONEY, DRISCOLL, DYER, FLETCHER, GARDINER, HANNAN, HORAN, McGEE, PRINCE, QUILL, RETALLACK. ____________________________________________________________________________________ 8:00? 8:25? 8:40? 1. [ARGYLL] HAMILTON
    2. Ron & Mary Harris
    3. I've been working on my HAMILTONs in last few days. George HAMILTON (b. Lesmahagow, LKS 1794, d. Arrochar, ARL 1887) & his wife Margaret BLACK (abt. 1800 - after 1861) arrived in Kilberry, ARL abt. 1850. They brought young adult children John, George, Catherine, Margaret & Elizabeth all b. 1820s/30s to Teretigan. Margaret married Thomas JOHNSTON & they farmed at Crear. Elizabeth married John MCMILLAN (this is my line.) The others did not marry, it seems. An elder brother, Alexander HAMILTON, remained in LKS. I have found parents for George HAMILTON Sr., but I am stuck on Margaret BLACK. I have heard she came from Brucehaven, Limekilns, Fife (family source) but the census of 1861 says Edinburgh, Midlothian. Does anyone here have access to statutory death records or shall I spend some money over at scotlandspeople? Looking for death of Margaret (nee BLACK) HAMILTON after 1861 & hoping it gives her parents. Thanks very much! Mary Fletcher Harris Canada

    3. You've found the same problem a lot of us find when we need to trace backwards. Search for the marriage first; you seem to have some assurance that she was married to Neil McCallum. From what source did you get that information and, is it reliable. The marriage certificate will tell you who the parents were. You might try and search for the death certificate of Neil which will give you some information. Have you found any records of their children between say 1855 to 1879 when Neil died? I think that's the best searching strategy you can apply. 3. Kirsten: I was @ the L.D.S. - Family History Centre this week & did a search on The Ontario Marriage Index, for Susan Boyd & Henry Robson - from 1900 to 1923, but there was no listing for them. I've done several searches for a railway accident in Toronto during the 1920's, under Susan & Henry's names, with no results. The Henry Robson I found last week, is not your Henry Robson - see Genforum website, " Robson " Family message no 617, posted by Merril Burns. The 1911 Canadian Census is the latest census available to the public, I searched it but no matches. If you have any info. regarding the following, it may be of help in further searches; did Susan & Henry have children ? ? Henry's d.o.b. & d.o.d. ? ? what year did Susan relocate to Scotland ? ? Susan's other given/christian names ? ? I'm sorry that I've had no positive results for you, they certainly are a mystery. John

Hi Moira The names are common for the whole West Coast At certain times in the 1800's there were projects which resulted in people from the West Coast boarding ships for places like Canada and Australia. They might be cousins. A couple may be related. But they could very easily all be completely unrelated. All you can do is work with the family you think is mostly like to be correct -- or, like many of us have to, work all three families until, if you are really lucky, you find something that gives you the confidence that its yours. Good luck and happy hunting. regards Jill Bowis www.benderloch.org.uk/forum - Ardchattan history, geology, ecology, genealogy, weather, webcam, local forum www.kintaline.co.uk - where we are, what we do: Kintaline Plant and Poultry Centre

My mother got three Scottish ones for 2007. Although we are allowed to look at the pictures as the calendars arrived, we are absolutely not allowed to put them up before New Year's Day. It would be very bad luck to do that. The other traditon is that we phone each other right after midnight. With the five or six hour time change between Ontario and Scotland, it can be quite a challenge phoning just after midnight has struck with the person you are phoning. > And finally, almost every year, our Scottish relatives send us Highland Tablet, made with sweetened condensed milk, not to be confused with fudge. 2. Mary Grace Morgan
    3. Hello. Our family settled in King Township in the mid 1830 (likely 1832) from Ireland. We are trying to establish where in Scotland they were originally from. A family story tells of a relative, Catherine Stewart, who visited her relatives in King Township. Is anyone from this list looking for Stewarts / Stuarts who emigrated to Canada. I realize that there is not much information to go on. Some of our family names and dates are posted at: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/m/o/r/Mary-G-Morgan/index.html Thank you for your time. Please respond to [email protected] Sincerely Mary Grace (Stewart) Morgan __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! 3. When I re-read RL Stephenson's "Kidnapped", after returning from Ed Miller's Folksongs of Scotland tour in 2003 (which I highly recommend), I did it with a map of Scotland spread out before me. Fun and enlightening to be able to follow David Balfour's steps, which certainly didn't concern me when I first read it. 3. Jen and others This couple can, I think be found as image number 1115 on web-site hosted by Harold Ralston. http://www.ralstongenealogy.com/personquery4.php is the page from which you can search by surname. This part of Harold's site contains an index to James Adam's wonderful collection of photographs of Kintyre gravestones. James will send images to those who ask for them. Just click on the link on the page. Are these your people on that index Lizzie - "WEIR, Elizabeth Galbraith, d.1920, 63 yrs 1115 2 Kilkerran new by Campbeltown in Kintyre" Thomas - EAGLESOME, Thomas, d.1919, 63 yrs 1115 2 Kilkerran new by Campbeltown in Kintyre This can certainly make it easier and cheaper to search for the death records on Scotland's People! James Adam has provided a wonderful service to researchers in Kintyre, and Harold Ralston has made the data easily accessible. Their work is greatly appreciated! 3. A query --- With the fall at Culloden in 1746 and with that, the failure to bring a catholic king to Britain (ie Bonny Prince Charlie), what was the atmosphere after 1746, what happened to those with catholic leanings? Were they included in the persecutions that fell upon the Jacobites? What was the general atmosphere? It seems there were quite a number of highland people caught in this dire situation. Were the Jacobites mainly catholic? Regards Meg
