    1. [ARGYLL] More Montgomery info
    2. Here is more on the kin I am searching to find.My cousin Margo found this info. If you look in the 1861 Census we find John Montgomery, who was not with his father and mother in the 1861 census in Strachur. However, we do find him in the 1861 census with his aunt Marth (Montgomery) Kerry listed as an apprentice fleshier to his uncle John Keddie, who was a fleshier or butcher. So now we understand how he became a Butcher instead of a smithy. Also note in the other information I sent to you in the 1861 census that we find that Dougald Montgomery was the Postmaster. So apparently his son William took over the Smithy when his grandfather William died, and William's son John after him. Colin was Dougald and Jane McKenzie's youngest child according to the 1861 census. ANY FURTHER INFORMATION WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED Peggy in SC [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) omit the ''2007'' to get correct email as I added it to stop spam

    1. [ARGYLL] NISBETs in Oban
    2. My grandmother's younger brother, John Smith Flockhart NISBET (widower of Sarah Carmichael), died in Edinburgh in 1947. The informant on his death registration was Robert NISBET, son, 2 Burnbank Terrace, Oban. According to my father, John (who was born in 1871) had two children, a boy, Bob, and a girl, so Bob was probably the informant mentioned above. Unfortunately nothing more is known about this branch of the family, although I can go back many generations and would love to share the information with any "new" relatives -- IF I could find them! Two other brothers went to Australia, but I have no details of who they married, etc. I would really like to find a male Nisbet relative to participate in a Nisbet DNA project. Also would like to invite any Nisbets (or Nesbitts or other variations) to the international Gathering of the Clan the first weekend of August, to be held in Michigan, USA. For details, contact [email protected] Irene Pollands Hall, in Michigan

    3. Hi Sandy, Mary McNab Kane was the dau of Alexander McNab and Elizabeth Keith (or McKeich). Alexander McNab was born 1799 at Killean and Kilchenzie, son. to Robert McNab and Mary McEachran. He died 1872 at Campbeltown. Alexander McNab and ElizabethKeith had at least 11 childaren that I know of , all born Campbeltown 1827-1849. Dont have much information on their children after that, though I do know one son, Alexander, ended up in Dunbartonshire. I tracked a dau Helen to Renfrew, Mary and Peter Kane and family stayed in Campbeltown. I am wondering where the others went?? I guess that is why we have the Argyll list..... right? Maybe you or someone else is related to these McNab?. Tell me a little abt your Campbeltown McNabs....maybe one of mine went to Australia. 3. Thanks for that link, Jill. Looks interesting. As I told Les, at one time, I worked in the Alexandra hotel in Fort William for about a year, after finishing my hotel management course at the, then, Scottish Hotel School.. On my days off I had time to explore the area - I just loved it - didn't want to leave, but circumstances dictated......! I reckon that if I drink just the right amount of red wine and have a wee dram now and again, :>) I may live long enough for one more visit, hopefully with my Canadian friends. One of them is a Campbell! Thanks again Regards Lorna

    3. Jill - thanks so much for that wonderful selection of photos. There are some real stunners - should be included in next Scotsman calendar!! I love 202 & 3 and many others where there are such wonderful colours and sky effects. Also the loch ones and the ruggedness of the mountains showing the geo formations and the u-shaped valleys where the ice has been in the ancient past. Wonderful shades of browns - I call them 'dun' browns, however, I believe that 'dun' alone means brown? I once skied in Glencoe!! - long before there were any ski facilities. We trudged up with our skis and packs and it was, of course, exhilarating coming down. We had the place to ourselves - lonely and remote in those days. After half a dozen climbs and runs - we'd had enough. There were patches where there wasn't much snow - I think we skied on heather then!! Funny old boots and skies. It's 54 or 55 years ago!!!! If it's ok with you, when you have added titles, I'll send the link to my friends in Canada who are very keen to visit and I want to join them, if the 'powers that be' allow me to do that!! Thanks very much Regards Lorna

If you look at http://www.geograph.org.uk/browse.php?p=676372 you can follow down the yellow road on the map. Quite a few can be improved as the amount of light confuses the camera rather.
