Damita, I have thought about that same thing before: more than one road being called the King's Highway. The one here in Sumter County, 261, from Pinewood through Stateburg and on to Camden is called the King's Highway. Highway 17 along the coast from Myrtle Beach to Georgetown is called the King's Highway. I am just guessing, but maybe roadways that were built before the Revolution and paid for with the King's money were referred to as the King's Highway. I have never read that anywhere; it just seems sort of logical. Something that we could look into somewhere, somehow. We need more of a historian to anwer that. Poor us, we are just family tree rooters who happen upon history in connection with our folks. Good hunting, Cindy
