    3. There were serveral newspapers during that time frame. One I just was reading last week was the Sumter Watchman. There's an excellent article in 1866 regarding the Dingle's Mill event during the Civil War. The ones I have found have been the actual papers and on microfiche at the South Caroliniana Library of USC in COlumbia. I'm sure someone else will be able to give you more info. If not, contact the South Caroliniana. Damita On Sat, 24 Jan 1998, Deborah Byrd wrote: > Hello I questions about the ealry newspapers of Sumter/Clarendon/Lee county area. Did the area have local papers from 1820-1880? What are the names of those papers? Are any collections of local newspaper in existence? Have any been microfilmed or transcribed? If there is a transcription project I am wiling to help if I can even though I live in Idaho. > > Thanks for the help > > Deborah Byrd > Hunting for sumter lines Byrd, Scott, Baker, Commander, Hickson > [email protected] > >
