Dale, I have a LOT of information on the Coker family. Most of the information was collected by my Uncle Fred T. Coker Jr. and my father James F. Coker, deceased. The focus of their research was the Whitley Coker Sr. line. Whitley Coker Sr. came to Sumter District before 1790 and is shown on Mill's Atlas. Two of the main Coker lines in South Carolina are the Caleb Coker line (Hartsville Cokers) and the Whitley Coker line (Sumter District Cokers). Both of these two lines descended from Cokers who came from England to Virginia in the 1600's then spread into North Carolina and later into South Carolina. The oldest Whitley Coker line cemetary I've seen is in Puddin Swamp. My Uncle Fred T. Coker Jr. showed me the cemetary site about 15 or more years ago. Some of the tombstones had been destroyed but several were standing and legible. Cokers known to be buried at the Puddin Swamp cemetary include: William David Coker 3/06/1821 - 3/03/1900 wife Hazeltine 1/19/1833 - 3/16/1871 Margaret Coker 5/19/1856 - 3/15/1889 Henry Coker 5/15/1854 - 1/27/1867 John J. Coker 3/05/1860 - 2/14/1893 Robert J. Coker 10/07/1850 - 9/22/1855 James Myers "Moss" Coker Jr. 8/12/1857 - 11/24/1925 Joseph Cunningham Coker 9/05/1859 - 1/18/1889 Wonder if anyone has done anything since then to protect, preserve, or restor the cemetary site?
