MARY JOHNSON'S CERTIFACATE THAT SHE IS FREE This is to certify that the bearer Mary Johnson (now a resident of the town of Columbia) is a free person of color.She was raised in Sumter Dst. + has lived ar Sumter Courthouse ______ in the town of Camden___ Her family are well known in Sumter Dst. as being free__ Her ancestor Willie Johnston migrated from Virginia and the family have been accepted and passed as free persons of color ever since and now have become very numerous.
