I have a feeling that he was talking about my alma mater, Winthrop College >> Greetings from SC. The South Carolina Female Collegiate Institute, founded by Dr. Elias Marks, was located at Barhamville (now Two Noth Rd., Columbia) 1828- 1865. Winthrop Training School (now Winthrop College in Rock Hill) was not started until 1886. The original location was on Henderson St. in Columbia. The original brick building was moved to the Winthrop campus in Rock Hill in this century. URQ
