    1. Re: [SCSUMTER-L] GUERRY-REMBERT, SC
    2. Mary Jacques
    3. Bob, you have asked me questions I can answer only with great detail and documentation of details because they interest you, me, and other GUERRY - REMBERT researchers. Right now, I only have before me the two sources I used in my previous correspondence today on GUERRY-REMBERT, SC and your email questions. At the moment, I am thankful for this limitation since coping with these resources is confusing enough for me as I recover from the flu. First, I can't comment authoritatively on Andre Rembert's first wife Anne BRESSAN (spelling as recorded on p. 8, and in "A", on p. 10 of Rembert & McCall). I hope someone else can help us out. Second, re the date of death of Mary Anne LeGRAND (Rembert McCall, pp. 741, 756). In "Aif" entry on page 741, Rembert & McCall have marriage date of Pierre GUERRY and Mary Ann (sic) LeGRAND as 15 December 1757 (matches marriage date Robert Cooper Manning, Jr cites in his email) and her death date as 3 October 1764. Marriage date of Pierre GUERRY and Judith (REMBERT) CROFT is given as 30 July 1778. Third, in "Aif" entry on page 755, not page 756 as stated in their Index of Names, Rembert & McCall repeat 15 December 1757 marriage date to Mary Ann LeGRAND. Mary Ann LeGRAND's date of death is given as 2 October 1764, not 3 October 1764 as on page 741. The death date of 2 October 1764 for Mary Ann LeGRAND is open for question when we consider Transactions No. 67, 1971 listing of "Children of Peter GUERRY (3) and Mary-Anne LeGRAND on pages 77 and 78. Further verification of the dates of child "James" who may have "died young" may give us clues to death date of Mary Ann LeGRAND. Entries for children are: Magdalen, b. Nov. 23, 1758 (p. 77) Elizabeth b. Nov. 23, 1758 (p. 77) Peter (5) b. Mar. 13, 1760 m. Catherine REMBERT Nov. 12, 1782. Footnote: Peter (6) was son of Andre GUERRY. (p. 77) LeGrand (1) b. Jan. 28, 1761, m. Dec. 4, 1788 Dorothy, daughter of Peter GUERRY (4) (p. 77) James b. Dec. 29, 1766 (p. 78) Anne b. Nov. 11, 1763, m. Manasseh MICHAU, July 4, 1782 (p. 78)" I, Mary Jacques, observe these dates are different from the dates given on p. 94 "Births and Baptisms" of Transactions, No. 76, 1971. Need further verification by primary sources to confirm if these are the same children in both entries. Since Pedigree Tables in this article are "Prepared From Various Sources and Records", possibility exists for variation between sources in dates and spelling of name of the same child, as we know! Also, see below, for Rembert & McCall's listing of names and information on these children. In "Births and Baptisms", transcribed in Transactions, No. 76, 1971, p. 94: "Le Grand, son of Peter and Mary Ann (sic) GUERRY - Planter, born Feb. 6th, 1761, baptized June 28th, 1761" "Peter, son of Peter and Mary Ann (sic) GUERRY - Planter, born March 17th, 1762, baptized May 1st, 1762." "Ann, Daughter of Peter and Mary Ann (sic) GUERRY - Planter, born Sept. 10th, 1764, baptized Nov. 11, 1764." Rembert and McCall's complete listing of Peter GUERRY and Mary Ann LeGRAND's 6 children are: Aifa Mary Magdalen GUERRY b. Nov. 22, 1758; m. James WALKER on Oct. 5, 1786 Aifb Elizabeth GUERRY b. Nov. 22, 1758; d. before Oct. 1, 1780 Aifc Peter GUERRY, II b. March 13, 1760, d. Sept. 1800; m. Catherine REMBERT (Acdd) on Nov. 12, 1782 who was b. Feb. 20, 1761 Aifd LeGrand GUERRY b. Feb. 6, 1761; m. Dorothy GUERRY (Aicab) on Dec 4, 1783 Aife Anne GUERRY b. Sept. 10, 1764; m. July 19, 1782 Manasseh MICHAU Aiff James GUERRY b. died young Note: Peter GUERRY (3) -Mary Anne (sic) LeGRAND are parents of twin girls, Magdalen and Elizabeth, born 23 November 1758 according to Transactions, No. 76, 1971, p. 77. On p. 98 of Transactions, No. 76, 1971, Mary Anne (sic) LeGRAND is also given as first wife of Peter GUERRY, III. Also note, the same Peter GUERRY (3), also known as Peter GUERRY III in his second marriage is listed as father of another set of twins: "Benjamin and Floridia (sic), twin children of Peter and Judith GUERRY, born July 20, 1788, baptized 1788" (Transactions, No. 76, 1971, p. 95, "Birth and Baptisms" Fourth, all of us may be interested in another aspect of "Aif" entry on page 755 of Rembert & McCall's book. Here they note the will of Peter GUERRY (husband of Mary Ann LeGRAND) was probated on 30 April 1784. This Peter GUERRY (husband of Mary Anne LeGRAND and later the husband of Mrs. Judith REMBERT CROFT) also is known as Peter GUERRY III in some references. Fifth, in entry "Aifa", page 755, not page 756 as stated in their Index of Names, Rembert & McCall have Mary Magdalen GUERRY, b. 22 November 1758; married James WALKER on 5 October 1786 (Mary GUERRY's spouse and date of marriage same as Robert Cooper Manning, Jr cites). Rembert & McCall also have entry "Aifb" Elizabeth GUERRY, b. 22 November 1758 and died before 1 October 1780. Sixth, PLEASE CORRECT TYPO in second paragraph of my previous email: Sent Sunday, January 30, 2000 at 11:32 AM; Subject: (SCSUMTER-L) GUERRY-REMBERT connections. Marriage date for Peter GUERRY's second marriage to widow Mrs. Judith REMBERT CROFT should be on 30 July 1778 at Santee, S.C. and NOT the marriage year I gave in second paragraph as 1788. Date I wrote in my Footnotes is correct. This section of my previous email should read: I am researching the following two GUERRY-REMBERT connections: Pierre GUERRY II (b. SC, ca. 1698 - d. 1736/1737) and Marguerite REMBERT -marriage possibly about 1722 and particuarly one of their 8 children: Peter GUERRY III whose second marriage was to Mrs. Judith REMBERT CROFT (married 30 July 1778 at Santee, SC) and their descendents **Secondary Sources**: 1) Sallie Henrietta Rembert and L. Bob wrote these references are "information from a pedigree sheet copied for my mother by my grandmother Rosa Isabel Cooper (Manning) in 1943 from her personal research. . .". ***Questions***: 1) Has anyone run across any research on my Pierre GUERRY II - Marguerite REMBERT and Peter GUERRY III-Mrs. Judith REMBERT CROFT connections? Does the above information fit with what you're finding? 2) Does anyone have hypotheses, information, or documentation on how Mrs. Judith REMBERT CROFT's birth-family possibly fits into a REMBERT line? 3) Can anyone tell me where I can find the will reportedly probated 30 April 1784 of Peter GUERRY (husband of Mary Ann LeGRAND and Mrs. Judith REMBERT CROFT)? The 30 April 1784 date of probate of will (Will probate date in Rembert & McCall, "Aif", p. 755) is after the birth of Peter's two children by Judith REMBERT CROFT GUERRY-- Samuel in 1779 and Isaac in 1783 -- and before the birth of his twins Benjamin and Floride (sic) in 1788 (birth years of children cited in Transactions, No. 76, 1971, p. 99; birth dates of children with month, day, year in Rembert & McCall, page 767.). 4) What is the significance of 1 October 1780 to be noted as a point for marking time in this family as a "before" date for date of Elizabeth GUERRY? 5) In Burials, transcribed in Transactions, No. 76, 1971, p. 95, is a listing for " Elizabeth Mary Anne GUERRY, an infant child - Died Nov. 12, 1773." Who is she? In conclusion, I am emailing this information as a working document which may be changed by documentation. If you are interested in this line, please read this complex email with great attention to detail. Please let me know of any questions or typo inconsistencies, so I can either make corrections or look at other resources. Additions of (sic) within the text of this email are my own. Thanks for your interest, any help, and any leads either to primary or secondary sources.
