    1. Re: [SCSUMTER-L] "S" in Scott book
    2. I'm not sure who I am writing to. I want the Holladay book if there are Holladay's from the Sumter area. Is it Betty or Bob who has the book? Do I send just a $40 check or is there shipping and all that? I want one and will send a check if there are Holladays from Sumter in it. There is a name or names. They are Adelia and Amanda or it might be Julia Holliday. There were twins born on 24 Aug 1896. Thank You, Jackie

    1. [SCSUMTER-L] Shields'sFoundry
    2. Kathy, He doesn't say much about the Foundry. It is mentioned in his description of Sidney Park in Columbia: "The hillside above the Springs, which supply the city with water, extending from Gov. Taylor's (now Judge Haskell's) residence to and beyond Shields's Foundry, was of solid red clay, scored and scarred by a number of deep gullies that made it very rough and unsightly." Not much there to help, but as you said, you never can tell..... Blanche

    1. Re: [SCSUMTER-L] "S" in Scott book
    2. Jackie This book is really nice. It has extensive research information from year 1000. I am overwhelmed with all this information. It shows the migration of the Holladay family across the continent. I think it would be very helpful in your quest. In the meantime if there is a specific name you want me to lookup let me know. This is the second printing and there are less than 30 copies left. Below is the info to order. Betty Subj: Re: Dr Alvis Book Date: 01/28/2000 3:39:35 PM Eastern Standard Time From: senor@bellsouth.net (Robert Holladay) To: ARTNFRAMES@aol.com Dear Cousin Betty; I have about 30 copies of my dad's book left. The cost is $40 post paid. Checks should be made to The Holladay Family Book Fund and mailed to me at: 1706 Old Hickory Blvd., Brentwood, TN. 37027. When the book is sold out, we are considering several options: reprinting it; putting it on a CD, or putting at least, significant portions on the net. Your input would be appreciated. Sincerely, Bob Holladay

    3. Jackie, R. Richardson also had a son named Charles Richardson, d. 1829. I have always wondered if my Charles M. Richardson, b. 1823, would be his son. I haven't found any proof yet. Charles M. named his son Darcus which is very close to Dorcas, as you say. Thanks for the help. I will keep looking. My Stones had a long history with the Richardson's, starting during the Rev. War and going up to this marriage between Mary Mercer and Charles. Thanks, again, Lonne ----- Original Message ----- From: <VisitHeaven@aol.com> To: <SCSUMTER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, February 12, 2000 5:09 PM Subject: Re: [SCSUMTER-L] Burchull > Lonne, maybe something to go on. 2. Does anyone have any further information on James Russell? Thanks, Pat ------------------ Forwarded Message: Subj: Re: [SCSUMTER-L] CSA Date: 1/12/00 5:43:24 PM Eastern Standard Time From: Genewelch@aol.com Reply-to: SCSUMTER-L@rootsweb.com To: SCSUMTER-L@rootsweb.com Faye, Thanks for the info. Hope you will not object to my passing on to an African-American friend. I understand there was a James Russell who was a freeman and African-American that served in CSA in Walterboro, SC. This info was printed when the NAACP wanted the Confederate Monument at the Walterboro Courthouse removed from the courthouse grounds. Perhaps the Sumter Genealogical Society should look for a copy of LIFE ON THE OLD PLANTATION IN ANTE-BELLUM DAYS written by Rev. I.E. Lowery, a former slave on the Frierson plantation who removed to Columbia, SC. I know this book is out of print but perhaps someone could find it in a specialty shop. I would surely be willing to contribute toward the purchase price. It's likely the book would be of use to our African-American genealogy researchers but the book depicts life in slavery as far less restrictive then most have assumed...
