Hi all, Here is a new Clarendon query that I just got. I will get it posted to the page this weekend but you can see it first here. Cindy
Tom, Not in my data that is already on the computer, but will have to check the hardcopy (paper) files to see if we have anything there. Since we are descended from the second wife, Mary Marguerite Stuart, we have not looked closely at this line, and I canot recall offhand what we may in the files. Will do a lookup for you though. In my database, I show two other JAMES. Temperence JAMES b. Aug 24, 1751, who married Reuben ROGERS of Surry Co. VA on Dec 15, 1767 in Johnston Co. NC. 14 children of this union. Reuben died in GA. Also show a Seaborn JAMES married Margaret L. Miller who died in St. Helena Parish, LA on Dec 27, 1848. I'm not showing anything else in the database on Seaborn. It is so timeconsuming to enter all the records, I often find additional info in our files, so will look up JAMES for you! Will probably be the weekend before I can get to it though. Good luck in your research, if either of the other two JAMES pique your interest, let me know. WELCOME TO THE "SCSumter-L" MAILING LIST! Hello Cousins, I am so glad that you subscribed to the brand new SCSumter mailing list. So far there are about 25 folks signed on for subscriptions and I have seen a few messages go across my screen. This list is only days old. I got the go ahead that it was ready on Labor Day, September 1 and today is the 4th. I sent out messages to all of the folks in my address book who are interested in Sumter, Lee, and Clarendon genealogy and to a few folks on some of the query pages. I haven't had time to get to all of them notified. I was rather shocked when I started sending out mail to people with queries and so many of them bounced. I suppose that their e-mail addresses changed or I made an error in posting. (That's why I hope that everyone checks theirs to see that it's ok.) I do copy and paste the queries but errors can happen and e-mail addresses do change. I have the instructions for joining the list on one of my pages at Geocities, so hopefully more cousins will link from the Sumter, Clarendon, and Lee pages and sign on even if they don't send in a query. I will get my cousin Dee Lowder Schmidt signed on soon. I sent her a message about it. She had asked me about the Lowder list (which I need a reminder to get it listed on my list page for Old Sumter) and I sent her some instuctions on that one. If she doesn't sign up soon, I will do it by using my password. I can subcribe and unsubcribe people as needed. I can check and see how many folks are subcribed and what their e-mail addresses are. Many of the e-mail addresses I recognize, some I don't. The Williamsburg County coordinator is out there on this list. Say hello to the folks Mr. Duke. Why don't we try this for starters. Everyone write to the list, tell what surnames you are researching and if you want to tell where you live so we can get an idea of where we all are geographically. All of you know by now that I live in Sumter County. I live about 7 miles from Wedgefield and about 5 miles from the heart of downtown Sumter. Probably about 12-13 miles to Pinewood and about that distance to Stateburg where my cousin Dee lives. I will forward this to her so she will have the full instructions to subscribe. When Dee starts to moniter this list she may be a great help to those who wonder is a certain surname has already been researched locally with files in the Sumter County Genealogical Society. She volunteers there almost every Wednesday afternoon. With her experiences there, she has garnered a lot of knowledge of what is in our local archives. Ya'll have fun. I have some work to do. Hi group, I subscribed as soon as I received the message this list had been created. Thanks for letting me know Cindy! I have been researching the Singleton family of early times. They go back to Matthew Singleton who arrived at or about the same time as his father-in-law Sherwood JAMES, circa 1752. Matthew held large estates in the Sumter area. Will post another message with associated surnames I have some information on. Good to be a part of this group. Thanks, Tom Land -- When you shake the family tree wondrous stories pour forth!
