    1. NEWS From Cindy
    2. Cynthia Ridgeway Parker
    3. Hello everyone, I just found out that there is a Holladay/ Holliday list. I posted how to join it on the lists page linked to all of the pages that I tend to. My friend and the best teaching assistant ever to enter my classroom door just got on the internet this week. How about giving her a welcome if you have the time. Her name is Tarsha Clark and last year I converted her to ancestor worship ;) and she is hooked. Now she is on the net too. She is looking for Smiths right now. She has managed to find where her ancestors were in Williamsburg and were owned by a family and the surname illudes me at the moment. Anyway, it was a name starting with Mc. They ended up in the Stateburg area of Sumter County and across the border a bit in Kershaw. The Clark side of the family is from Wedgefield (Sumter County) Her e-mail address is [email protected] (Her mom is remarried and her last name is Council.) (Tarsha hasn't joined this list yet. I looked. She is still figuring out surfing, e-mail next.) Oh, the Clarendon County Archives is having a grand opening celebration on the 24th. Can't wait. Candlelight tour and everything. Sounds like fun. Wendy the archivist's e-mail address is on the archives page which is part of the Clarendon page. The Sumter County Fair was last week. We didn't go but are planning on heading to the State Fair in Columbia on Saturday. I haven't been to Columbia in ages when I wasn't headed for the State Archives. I won't know how to act being in Richland County and not going rooting. Can I make it :) Bye, Love from Sumter Cindy

    2. Tom Land
    3. Can anyone tell me more about a John GAYLE, in Sumter area of SC early. His house was used for Court before the first Court House was built circa 1804, apparently on his land which he purchased from Robert Singleton who obtained it from grantees thomas Sumter & Benjamin Mitchell. Additional info on him is on page 69 of Cassie Nicholas "Historical Sketches of Sumter Co., It's Birth and Growth". Robert Singleton married a Sarah Gayle, apparently some relation to John. Any additional info on this family would be appreciated. Thanks, Tom Land -- When you shake the family tree wondrous stories pour forth! (Also some fruits & nuts!!) 1. Apology for my Researchers? comments
    2. Sorry list, I did not mean to begin a flame war. This past week I had 3 different people blame me for something they had done or not done. I lashed out without thinking. It was never my intention (some people took me wrong, too) to say computers or programs made things perfect. First, I am far from a computer expert. Secondly, my main point was that some people blame things on other people without making the best effort they can on their end of the line. Computers and programs do not make a genealogist, but being a very conscientious person helps alot. Faye

    1. RE: Atkinson
    2. Tom, A Lucy Atkinson was one of my grandcestors: I have a little info but not much on her. Her parents were James and Elizabeth Atkinson who had Marmaduke, Shadrick or Shadrack, Federick or Frederick, Adwill or Atwell, Sylvia (who married a Spight), Martha (who married a Lenoir) Elizabeth (who married a Malone), and Lucy (who first married Wiley Fort and after his death, Gilbert Crosswell. Lucy and Gilbert had several children: John, William, James and Adwill. Gilbert died in Sumter Co in 1810 and Lucy died, I think, in Sumter Co. sometime after 1828. I am a decendant through her son, William. I tried to contact you sometime ago but your link wasn't working. I'd appreciate any info you have on the family. Thanks much. Marcia Frances Bowen-Astley

    1. Joseph M. Felder
    2. My gg grandmother Mary Felder Thames (1833-1908) was the daughter of Joseph M. Felder. Most of the Felder information I have found comes from the Old Orangeburg District, but I have found a few Felders in and around Old Sumter. Does anyone have information on Joseph M. Felder, his wife, parents or grandparents, or any information linking Orangeburg and Sumter Felders?
