    1. [SCSUMTER-L] Cleaning out the family closet ...
    2. dibblelaw
    3. Many, many years ago When I was twenty three, I got married to a widow, Pretty as could be. This widow had a grown-up daughter With flowing hair of red. My father fell in love with her, And soon the two were wed. This made my dad my son-in-law And changed my very life. Now my daughter was my mother, For she was my father's wife. To complicate the matters worse, Although it brought me joy. I soon became the father Of a bouncing baby boy. My little baby then became A brother-in-law to dad. And so became my uncle, Though it made me very sad. For if he was my uncle, Then that also made him brother To the widow's grown-up-daughter Who, of course, was my step-mother. Father's wife then had a son, Who kept them on the run. And he became my grandson, For he was my daughter's son, My wife is now my mother's mother And it makes me blue. Because, although she is my wife, She's my grandma too. If my wife is my grandmother, Then I am her grandchild. And every time I think of it, It simply drives me wild. For now I have become The strangest case you ever saw. As the husband of my grandmother, I am my own grandpa! Author Unknown

    2. Dwight David Dennis
    3. Hello all, In my recent research trip to SC I learned more about Henry,James R. and Gower Dennis all known to be bros. of Autauga Co.,Al and Sumter Co.,SC. A Henry Dennis seems to be the forebearer of this line even tho I have no proof of that at this time. Also the Richard H. and Richard G. I spoke of eariler seems to be Richard Gower Dennis who I have records of suppling Rev. War troups with food.I also have records of land sales being dispersed to Richard H.Dennis,Henry Dennis,Gower Dennis,James R.Dennis,Francis Dennis,Josiah C. Dennis and William Dennis of the District and State aforesaid and John Dennis of the Mississippi Territory that appears to come from th estate of Henry Dennis and was witnessed by Richard Gower Dennis. I also have a document for power of attorney from John Dennis of Holmes Co.,Ms 1843 to Gower Dennis of Autauga Co.,Al in the matter of the will of Richard H. Dennis of Sumter Co.,SC.I can find no trace of a will or estate papers of Henry or Richard Gower or Richard H.Dennis even thou there should be such listd I also lose track of the Francis Dennis(sex unknown)and Josiah C. and William (too many too be certain of). Other facts are Mary W. Muldrow deeded a slave to her grandson William Lawerence Dennis, his mother was Adeline Elizabth Muldrow Denis, w. of Dr. John E. Dennis.Lawerence Dennis was's another early settler of SC.I am interested in ANY early info on Dennis's in SC or posssible connection of these to earilier states.I will be posting info to the apppropiate county archives on genweb. 3. I am working on the following families: John A. THOMPSON's widow (Elizabeth Edmonds Thompson) listed his birthplace as Sumter, SC on her pension for his service in War of 1812. with a birthdate of 1781. Samuel Edwin Dickey JOHNSON stated he was born in Sumter SC in 1817. He married Margaret MCBRIDE also from Sumter. I do not know the parents of John Thompson or Samuel Johnson. John shows up next in Maury Co. TN. There were McBrides there also. Anyone who sees a familiar name, please let me know! Charlotte

    1. [SCSUMTER-L] Wives and Children of Col. Archibald McDONALD
    2. Wm McI
    3. Hello, I'm interested in any sources of information on the wives and children of Col. Archibald McDONALD of Revolutionary War fame. Ames, "Cantey Family" SCHS: states that Archibald was married to Martha RICHARDSON (d/o Gen. Richard RICHARDSON and Mary CANTEY) and assumes that his three children to reach adulthood (Susannah McDONALD, Martha Neilson McDONALD, and William McDONALD) were the children of Martha RICHARDSON. BUT: Brunson & Brunson, Four Centuries of Brunson and Allied Families make a pretty convincing case that Martha RICHARDSON would have been Archibald's second wife and that first wife Margaret NEILSON (NELSON) would in all likelihood been the mother of some if not all of these children. I Know a lot of us are proud of Gen. RICHARDSON and I have enjoyed claiming as an ancestor, but as far as documentation I've seen, I believe my ancestor Susannah (McDonald) CANTEY nee CONNOR was most probably the daughter of Margaret NEILSON and thus the granddaughter of William NEILSON and Susannah BRUNSON. Please consider this an invitation to prove me wrong!!!! Thanks, Bill McIntosh
