    1. [SCSUMTER-L] DODD, William, SC, 1800
    2. Hello, all. I am new to this list and wondered if anyone had any lead (or advice) for hunting down my Dodd. William Dodd appeared on the 1800 Sumter County census with (presumably) a wife (Hannah _______), one son (Joseph Nathaniel Dodd b. 1794, d. 1847), and five daughters. By 1810, William is gone (dead?), but Hannah remains with one son and one daughter. In 1830, Hannah is in Barnwell County, SC. By 1840, the son (Joseph Nathaniel Dodd) has moved to St. George (Dorchester County). I am stuck on William and don't know where to search next. Any help would be appreciated. Anne Dodd

    1. [SCSUMTER-L] Lee County McIntoshes
    2. Hi Maidee, Thanks for your suggestions! I do not presently have access to the book you mentioned - But I am pretty sure that I've checked its index before. Yes I am related to the Bishopville McIntoshes. Cousin Allie's husband Plummer was an even closer cousin. Mattie Joye McIntosh was my step great- grandmother. Her husband John Franklin McIntosh was married first to her sister Sarah Adelaide "Sallie" Joye. Their son William Ernest McIntosh (1881-1955) was a dentist in Lynchburg. He married Frances L. "Franke" Lesesne (b. 1891). They are also buried at Lynchburg Presbyterian Church next to my sister Katherine Lachlan McIntosh. My father was principal of Lynchburg High School until it closed. We moved to Charleston when I was about 14 months old so I don't remember much about the area other than annual camping/fishing trips on Lynches River when I was 6-10 years old or so. Again thanks for your help. Bill (William Ernest McIntosh III)

    3. Hi Bill_ Do you have access to the 3 vol cem survey for Old Sumter/Lee co's publ by the Sumter Co Geneal Soc? I found Martha E & Francis buried in Lynchburg Pres Ch Cem as well as Mattie Joye McIntosh & Martha Elizabeth McIntosh who are no doubt dau or nieces...Lots of Rhames as well in various cems. BTW, are you related to the McIntoshes and Spencers of Bishopville & mayesville? My husband, Jim "Spence" Spencer's grandfather was Elisha Gaither Spencer, cousin of Allie Anderson McCutcheon McIntosh who wrote a very chatty anecdotal family history, with not too many dates but lots of lines including a Joye, tons of McIntosh Fullwood Anderson Spencer lines (forgot my husband's father who died in 1948...) I teach middle school and my main rule there is "Conduct yourselves as ladies and gentlemen." That about covers everything like the be nice on here, and it works, here and in middle school. It will soon be a year since I have started this list (Labor Day) and we have never had any old flaming on here and I have to say that I love it and all of ya'll too for being such great list mates. 1. [SCSUMTER-L] Emanuel or Lucretia HODGE
    2. I am looking for evidence that Lucretia, the first wife of Jeremiah RHAME, Jr. was a Lucretia HODGE. The only supporting information I have found at all is a June 27, 1798 deed from Jeremiah RHAME, Sr. to his son Asa Benoni RHAME which was witnessed by an Emanuel (X) HODGE. Any information on this Emanuel HODGE or a Lucretia HODGE greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bill McIntosh Here's that deed for anyone interested in these families: Jeremiah Rhame, Sr. of Clarendon Co., State of S.C.to Bradley Rhame, for and in behalf of Asa Rhame, son of the above Jeremiah Rhame, both of sd. county and state, a track of land containing 100 acres, lying on the N side of Big Pedee, being a track originally granted to Erasmus Rothmahler, on all sides vacant land at the time of the Grant and signed by his Excellency Thomas Pinckney, Esq., then Governer and Commander in Chief. Consideration: 5 pds. sterling money. Signed: Jeremiah (X) Rhame. Witn: Stephen Nixon and Emmannuel (X) Hoddge. Proved by Stephen Nixon before Jno. Ridgill, J.P. [Recorded 19 Mar 1803]

    3. Does anyone know why part of the Mt. Vernon Plantation was called Barwick's Botton? Did a Barwick own part of the land and/or was it through part of an inheritance from Martha's side? Sandra Dorociak [email protected]

    3. Thank your son very much for posting the recipe- i know it is an old tale and never copied it down- I made 1/2 recipe yesterday and it is the best cookie i have ever made or tasted. Without his prank I doubt if I would ever have made them. Just to let you know that there may be a bright side to anything and if he finds any more recipes, please send them. Tom
