November 14, 1890. NEWS FROM NORTH PACOLET To the allegations and denials which have gone before the readers, we have no disposition to refer in this connection, but simply mention these matters deserving publicity. - The railroad forces have about stopped work. The cause as we understand it, is , the contractors haven't been paid up. MR. TOM BROWN has made an examination of the roadbed and he says it is so crooked that it will take cross-eyed engines to run it. - Little WORTH McCULLOUGH, who was accidentally shot some time ago, coughed the bullet up about 10 days ago. He has entirely recovered from the effects of the wound. - MRS. JOHN TATE died last week. - MRS. AROMITA HOWELL died at her home near Bonham, Texas, about 3 weeks ago. --------------- PERSONALS MISS MAMIE BAILEY has returned from an extended visit to relatives in York County. - Our little friend RICHARD GIST has taken charge of the fruit store in the Union Hotel building. - Our friend MR. T.B. DOGGETT, of North Carolina, has taken the position of operator and agent on the G.C. and N.Railroad at Fish Dam. He spent a few days with us this week. - MR. W.D. One of their first actions was to provide for enforcing the Sunday law which is on our Statutes and also one of the Town Ordinances. It cannot be truthfully denied that for sometime past there was apparently no regard paid to the Sabbath day. But we hope that such a matter of things will only apply to the past and that the council will hereafter strictly enforce the law, from selling of whiskey to the sale of ice and even to the closing of the Barber Shops. ----------------- OBITUARY April 11, 1890. MRS. IDA BOBO, wife of JESSE F. BOBO and the youngest daughter of DANIEL and MARY McLAUGHLIN, born in Union County, Sept. 20, 1868 and died January 25, 1890. Early in life she was impressed with the subject of religion and when she was 16 years old she fully identify herself with the church and we trust her heart to God. She was happily married on April the 23rd, 1889 to MR. BOBO, with whom she spent nine months of the happiest of her life. She was one of the most quiet unassuming Christians I ever knew. She loved her church and she was a true friend of her pastor. May God bless her aged parents, upon whom, possibly, the stroke falls heavier and give them grace ...to the sorrowing brothers and sisters, may He pour His graceious spirit upon and to my dear friend, the bereaved husband, may He help him to strive to meet his IDA, where no more sad partings shall ever come, but where we will be permitted to spend eternity with God, Angels and loved ones. D.P. BOYD, pastor. ------------------- nancie o.- share, don't sell.
