DEATHS AND FUNERALS Sept. 9, 1927. Funeral services for WILLIAM P. HORTON, 52, prominent farmer of the Cooley Springs section who died yesterday afternoon at his home, after a short illness, was conducted from Mountain View Baptist Church this afternoon, interment followed in the churchyard. MR. HORTON was a man of influence in his community, was one of the progressive farmers of the county. He is survived by his widow, MRS. LONNIE HORTON; 3 sons, B.L., Cherokee, ABNER HORTON, U.S. Navy, RAYMOND HORTON, Cherokee, rt.3; 7 daughters, MRS. J.F. WALL, Cherokee, MRS. GUS BRYANT, Spartanburg, MRS. J.D. NANTZ, Cherokee, MRS. BOB HAMBRICK, Spartanburg, MISSES GRACE , VELMA and ALICE HORTON, Cherokee. His mother, MRS. HESTER HORTON of Landrum; 3 brothers, W.C. HORTON, Landrum, G.W. HORTON, Campobello and JAMES DILL, Landrum; 6 sisters, MRS. M.L. WILSON and MRS. E.E. WILSON, Landrum, MRS. M.J. McCRAINE, Mill Springs, MRS. JOHN SMITH, Wellford, and MRS. T.A. MILES FUNERAL AT HOBBYVILLE CHURCH FRIDAY Funeral services for DANIEL MARTIN MILES, aged 75 years, one of the most prominent farmers and political figures of the state who died at the Mary Black Clinic Wednesday midnight will be held Friday from the Hobbyville Baptist Church. The services will be in charge of REV. J.L. VIPPERMAN, REV. J.R. WHITESIDE, REV. W.L. BALL, REV. HENRY WADE DUBOSE, REV. C.B. PRINCE, REV. J.H. BOULDRIDGE, REV. MR. LEVER and REV. J.J. GENTRY. { Pallbearers were about 50 in number } MR. MILES had been ill for more than two years and was brought to the hospital here after his condition assumed an alarming stage. Retiring from active life 2 years ago, he went to his family home near Cross Anchor to supervise his extensive farming interest. About 3 months ago he was confined to his bed . He was born at Burnt Factory on May 7, 1852, the son of NANCY STROUD and DANIEL MILES. On June 20, 1888, he married NANNIE C. YOUNG, the daughter of NEWTON YOUNG of Clinton. She died July 27, 1900, leaving two daughters. Surviving him are his two daughters, MRS. P.E. WATSON and MRS. H.D. WIMBERLY, both of the city and the following grandchildren; D.M. MILES, CHARLES WIMBERLY, JAMES WIMBERLY, HARRY WIMBERLY JR., MILDRED WIMBERLY, PAUL WATSON JR., and NANNIE WATSON. ------------------------------ Thursday, August 25, 1927. WELLFORD MAN IS WINNER IN THIRD CONTEST E.B. CAMPBELL of Wellford, won first place in the 3rd of the elimination contests in the State Fiddler's Championship contest at the Carolina theater in Greenville last night. He will be one of the 5 men to play for the cup at the Carolina Saturday night. E.P. HIGH of Switzer, won second prize; B.R. LEDBETTER of Greenville, won third place and fourth prize went to J.A. GODFREY of Mauldin, Greenville County. ------------------------------ GLENDALE, Aug. 24 - Glendale mill school will open Monday, Sept. 12. The teachers are as follows: MRS. W.F. MOORE, principal, MRS.F.D. MURRAY, MRS.E.L. TONGUE, MISS MINNIE SANDERS and MISS MARIE SIMS. - W.J.H. MURRAY and son, HERMAN JR., have returned to their home here after a visit to Shelby, where they spent 2 weeks with relatives. - MR. and MRS. DICK SOLESBY and children spent a few days in Charleston. - MRS. ELLA WEATHERS will spend the weekend at Junaluska with her son and his bride, REV. and MRS. E.D. WEATHERS, who were married Wednesday at Marion, Ind., the bride's home. MR. WEATHERS has a church at Stampy Point, N.C. and they will make their home there for the present. - MR. and MRS. A.A. BROWN and MISS FANNIE MABRY attended MR. HUGHES funeral at Clifton Wednesday. - MISS MALLIE BROWN is spending this week with her sister, MRS. H.M.
