    1. [SCSPARTA] Charles H Bankard on 1870 census for Spartanburg, SC

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EgB.2ACI/2642 Message Board Post: Would anyone have any idea what could have been going on in Spartanburg, SC in 1870, for several members of the US military and an ex-military man, Charles H Bankard, to be visiting there? These men, all listed as Capt, Major, or Surgeon USA, and Charles Bankard, listed as assessor for the Internal Revenue, are staying at a hotel run by Alfred Tollison in Spartanburg Village. They must have been staying there for several months because one of the men, John King, has a child, Estelle, who was born in March in South Carolina. Any help or ideas about this would be great! I know that Charles Bankard was a Lieutenant in the First Maryland Cavalry. That is why I think there is a connection between Bankard and these other men, as they are listed as members of the military. thanks, MR Jan A Bankert
