RIDDLE, a prosperous farmer of Laurens County was on Wofford street, the other day to see his brother-in-law, D.C. CATHCART. --Mrs. Hester THOMAS of Cowpens is visiting her brother, A.S. BLANTON. --Miss Fannie ROBISON will now make her home with her sister, Mrs. SPILLERS on Wofford Street. Mrs. ROBISON moved to Greers today. WELFORD WRINKLES [Sept. 7] --Among those who went to Taylor's Station Sunday to the unveiling of Theodore BOWLING's monument were the Messrs. PITTMAN, John BEASON and G.B. McCARTER. --Miss Mary HARDING and her brother who have been spending several weeks here, have returned to their home in Atlanta, Ga. --W.R. McCARTER and family of Arlington visited his father here last week. --Ed NICHOLLS and mother visited here last week. --W.E. MILLS passed through our town last week on his way to the mountains. --Cleveland McCARTER and sister, Miss Sallie have returned home after a pleasant visit to Campobello and Landrum. --J.D. LOWRIE of Mississippi is visiting G.G. McCARTER. --G.B. McCARTER leaves soon for a trip to Pennsylvania and other states. --Bantle COX of Spartanburg visited at this place. --Miss Lizzie MOORE is recovering from a hurt she received last week by falling. MOORE MENTION: [Sept. 5] --Mrs. Ellen FINCH of Spartanburg has been visiting her son, John FINCH of this section. --Misses Minnie FINCH, Ola and Alma BRIGGS of Spartanburg visited Mr. and Mrs. John FINCH on Saturday last. PUBLIC SALES . . .The following sales were made: One lot at the corner of Evans and Cummings street, this city, sold as the property of E.L. SIMS, was bid in by H.L. BOMAR for $149. Six acres of land near Cedar Springs, sold as the property of M. Janie BATES, et al., was bought by M.J. BATES, for $500. Two tracts of land 61 and 15 acres respectively were auctioned off by the administrator of the estate of Thos. P. PEAKE was bid in as a whole by G.D. PEAKE for $1,500. One acre of land in town of Landrum, property of Betsy CARPENTER, was sold for taxes. It was bid in by Judge Burnett for $52. THEIR SONS IN COURT Following close upon the arraignment of their respective fathers, Adams and Lewis YOUNG, before United States Commissioner McGOWAN. Charlie and Buford YOUNG, first cousins, were arraigned before Magistrate KIRBY each on the charge of assault and battery yesterday afternoon. The two had each other up for the same offense, which seems consisted of a few blows and reckless handling of a revolver on the part of one of them. The case did not go to trial because of a settlement reached before the case came up. CHRONICLES OF CAVINS [Sept. 7] --T.A. HALL and A.J. ALVERSON of Inman have been visiting friends in this section. --R.C. BURNETT of Musgrove and M.P. BURNETT of Spartanburg recently paid a visit to their sister, Mrs. J.B. ALEXANDER, who has been quite sick. FLATWOOD FACTS: [Sept. 7] --Rufus WHITE has returned from Union where he has been ona visit to relatives. --Mrs. J.K, WHITE is improving --Mr. and Mrs. CARRUTH of Spartanburg were the guests of Joe WHITE's family last week. --Mrs. EVANS leaves for Alabama Friday night. --Miss Bessie WHITE has returned from a visit to Pauline, Glenn Springs, and White Stone. --Mrs. Tobe GUINN is at her brother's quite sick. DAWKINS RELEASED; ANOTHER ARRESTED Roach DAWKINS, the Negro who was held with Asa LITTLEJOHN for the killing of Felix DEWBERRY, was released this morning by order of Magistrate WILLIAMS of Clifton. The release was because of the lack of evidence implicating DAWKINS with the crime John DEWBERRY was arrested and put in jail for his share of the affair today. He is the brother of the man who was killed and was the original starter and cause of the row that resulted so seriously. He is held on the charge of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. WINGO MILLS NOTES: [Sept. 8] --Sam COLLINS and Durham BLACKWELL are about ready for ginning cotton. They have a new outfit and we predict for them a large patronage. Dock HAMMETT and George SETTLE are also preparing to gin on the Hickory Hollow road. --Thomas BALLENGER of Campton has bought O.F. BROWN's farm near here and is going to move to it next year. We welcome him in our midst. James COTHER of Gowansville was among us yesterday trying to locate a farm for another year. NEW PROSPECT NOTES: [Sept. 7] --Miss Lela McMILLIN is ill at present and her recovery is doubtful. --Mrs. Joe McCLURE has returned from Polk County, N.C., where she was called to the bedside of her sick father, Rev. J.M. WILLIAMS. --Miss Julia ALVERSON of Reidville has returned home after a few days here visiting relatives. --Miss Mamie DODD is visiting her sister, Mrs. James RUCKER of Mill Springs. --Mr. and Mrs. W. CLEMENT are the happy parents of a baby boy.
