I'm assuming that these census records are correct and they didn't miss anybody. The 1790 census only shows the name of the head-of-household, number of males over 16, number of males under 16, number of females, & number of slaves. We have the following: #1. Abner Timmons, 1 male over 16, 3 females. Spartenburg area. #2. Sam Timmons, 2 males over 16, 1 male under 16, 5 females, 2 slaves, Spartenburg area. #3. Moses Timmons, 2 males over 16, 7 females, 13 slaves, Spartenburg area. #4. Wm Timmons, 1 male over 16, Spartenburg area. #5. John Timmons, 3 males over 16, 3 males under 16, 4 females, 6 slaves. Prince Frederick's Parish. #6. James Timmons, 1 male over 16, 2 females, 1 slave, Prince Frederick's Parish. #7. Levi Timmons, 1 male over 16, 3 females, Prince Fredrick's Parish. #8. Jno Timmons, 1 male over 16, 1 female, 13 slaves. Beaufort area. #9. Lewis Timmons, 1 male over 16, 1 male under 16, 2 females, 2 slaves. Charleston area. #10. Samuel Timmons, 1 male over 16, 1 male under 16, 2 females, 7 slaves. Charleston area. #11. William Timmons, 2 males over 16, 1 male under 16, 2 females, Prince George Parish. The 1850 census for Tippah County, Mississippi shows our John Timmons to have been 61 years old or born in 1789. Assuming this is correct, he would have been 1 year old in 1790 or under 16. Only 5 of these 11 Timmons families show a male under 16 on the 1790 census for South Carolina. #2. Sam Timmons had 1 male under 16 in the Spartenburg area. # 5. John Timmons had 3 males under 16 in Prince Frederick's Parish. #9. Lewis Timmons had 1 male under 16 in the Charleston area. #10. Samuel Timmons had 1 male under 16 in the Charleston area. #11. William Timmons had 1 male under 16 in Prince George Parish. We end up with, 1 male under 16 in the Spartenburg area, 2 males under 16 in the Charleston area, 1 male under 16 in Prince George Parish and 3 males under 16 in Prince Frederick's Parish with the 3 males under 16 in Prince Frederick's parish being in the same family. That of John Timmons. Spartenburg is in the northwest corner of South Carolina. Charleston is in southeastern South Carolina on the coast and is a Port City. Prince Frederick's Parish & Prince George Parish were in the Georgetown District which was in northeastern South Carolina. Present day Timmonsville and Florence & Marion Counties would have been in the old Georgetown District. Assuming again that these census records are correct and no Timmons family was missed by the census, Our John Timmons born in 1789 was born either in the Spartenburg area, Charleston area or the Timmonsville area and his father was either Sam Timmons, John Timmons, Lewis Timmons, Samuel Timmons or William Timmons. Not having enoug! h information at this time, I couldn't say which of the three areas he was born in nor which of the five Timmons was his father. I would say the law of probabilities would, I think, indicate the Timmonsville area because there were three males under 16 in the family of John Timmons and the fact that our John Timmons had the same name as head-of-household possibly making him John Timmons, Jr.
