    2. "Carolina Spartan Issue: November 7, 1883 Mr. S.H. CROW lost his kitchen and contents by fire last Saturday night. His wheat and cotton seed were destroyed. The fire was accidental. He has the hearty sympathies of his neighbors as he is a most excellent man and a kind hearted neighbor. Dr. W.W. DUNCAN has been confined to his room for four weeks. His friends have hoped day after day that they will see him on the streets, but although he is improving it will be some time before he can go to work again. F.W. FANT, Esq., a young lawyer of Newberry, has cast in his lot with the people of Spartanburg. He and his family will be permanently located here. Partridges are quite abundant in the county, and gunners that own well trained dogs are having fine sport. Parker WHITE, Alex WHITE, and a friend went out about two weeks ago and brought down 70 partridges in one morning. They did some excellent shooting. The best was to bring down eight birds at one flush. J.B. KING caught a notorious Negro known as Doctor Henry TURNER, last week. He has been putting in his work along the Air-Line railway. He swindled his own color mostly and they have taken out several warrants against him. It is probable that he will be wanted in other places when Solicitor Duncan gets through with him. LIGON has been unable to be at his drug store for the last three weeks, being prostrated by fever. He is still confined to his bed. His friends hope to see him out again soon. Mr. W.W. JONES of the Virginia Store, was called to New York by telegram Monday, his daughter, Miss Ida, being extremely sick. Major C.Q. PETTY, of Gaston county, N.C., visited Spartanburg Monday. He has not been here in 30 years, and says he recognizes very few of the old landmarks. Senator Giles J. PATTERSON, of Chester, will this day, Wednesday, marry Mrs. M.V. WINSMITH, of this county. Their many friends in this county and the Spartan especially, extend to them most hearty congratulations and best wishes for their happiness.
