    3. 1931 EARLE GOSSETT, BELIEVED DEAD RETURNS HOME April 16- Twenty years ago EARLE GOSSETT, s/o W.R. GOSSETT , local painter, who died here in 1925, left home and not a word was heard of him, until he came in from Washington and looked up his friend, R.S. HAMMETT, who resides on Johnson street, and asked about his father and mother. Earle left home and stricken with wanderlust found himself in Belgium. He enlisted in the Belgian army to oppose the Germans and was seriously wounded in a hand to hand conflict in which he was literally carved up with a German bayonet and was in the hospital for two years. He spent 8 years in Belgium but had a longing to come back to America. He returned to NY and then went to Washington where he was living ever since. MR. HAMMETT took him to the home of a sister; MRS. BUD ROGERS, who did not know him, until she was told who the visitor was, then she recognized him. His father died in 1925 and his mother in 1919. A brother I.H. GOSSETT lives in Chesnee. He spent two nights in Spartanburg before returning back to Washington. He promised to return here within a month to seek his relatives and friends. ----- MARRIAGE RECORDED PAUL E.
