McDOWELL is sick at the home of her son on Magnolia street. --Mrs. Amanda HIGH, who has been quite ill at her home on South Converse street has about recovered. --R. J. SEXTON was committed to jail today by Magistrate POTTER on a charge of obtaining goods under false pretenses. --Dr. G. A. RANCH has purchased the Martin residence and will shortly move into the house with his family. --Lucinda RICE, colored, who was recently adjudged insane in an examination before Probate Judge Gentry, was today sent to Columbia where she will be placed in the insane asylum. --Magistrate KIRBY's report for the first quarter of the present year shows that over $81 was collected in fines. There were 14 cases for violating the dispensary law, 12 for assault and battery, and battery, and a number of others. --Invitations have been received here announcing the marriage of Howard Andrew LITTLEJOHN, son of Dr. C. M. LITTLEJOHN of Gaffney to Miss Daisy Dean RICE of Belton, S.C. The ceremony will take place on Wednesday, April 21. EVINSVILLE EVENTS: [April 15] --Mr. and Mrs. B. L. MONTGOMERY of Woodruff spent Thursday with Mrs. Mary HOLCOMB. --Mr. and Mrs. W. M. ALEXANDER spent Sunday at Captain HUFF's. --Miss Elliot McCRAVY of Enoree is visiting her sister, Mrs. Eliza SUMNER. --W. M. ALEXANDER went to Spartanburg Thursday. --E. A. ALEXANDER went to Buffalo Mills Friday. --Miss Nora JOHNSON returned from Hobbysville Thursday. --Young FRANKLIN has the finest garden we have seen. HOLLY SPRINGS NOTES: [April 13] --Last Tuesday morning Adam GRAMLIN was arrested near the Dark Corner by Deputy Marshal HARLEY who took him before United States Commissioner Wm. McGOWAN. He was examined and bound over for selling whiskey. The defendant being able to give bond returned home. --W. B. BRUCE has been suffering a great deal with rheumatism. --Rev. W. W. JONES filled his regular appointment at the Baptist Church at this place Sunday. --B. F. HARLEY and R. E. NEELY made a trip to town Saturday. --Rev. W. J. SATTERS preached at Holly Springs Church Saturday evening. --W. L. CLAYTON has been visiting relatives in Spartanburg for several days. --George WINGO of Fairview has been visiting in this community. LENOIR HAPPENINGS: [April 12] --Pinckney McABEE, who has not been in this community before in 33 years, is here from Jackson, Tenn., to spend some time with his relatives and friends. --Miss Zilphia LEE, an aged lade of this place, who has been house keeping for J. H. GOSNELL of Whitney, is at home sick. --Moses BELL of near Whitney has a pig nine weeks old that will weight 80 pounds. WALNUT GROVE GLEANINGS: [April 13] --Willie LANCASTER has bought a new surrey. --The new star route began the 1st of April. We now have mail at this place three times a day. TYGER RIVER TOPICS: [April 13] --Some time ago Geddes VISE killed a large maddog which was traveling through the country. Since then I have heard of another nearby, but can't say whether or not it was killed. FINGERVILLE FACTS: [April 13] --Mumps is prevalent in this community. Dr. J.B. WILSON has been afflicted with it for some time. He said he did not eat anything for ten days and weighs twenty-five pounds less than when he took it. HEARD AT HILLSVILLE: [April 13] --One of the convicts made his escape from the gang yesterday. Diligent search is being made for him, though he had not been found at the last report. --Mrs. W.D. HAMMETT visited her sister, Mrs. M. C. DAVIS at Enoree on Sunday. --Mrs. Miles HIX is now visiting her daughter, Mrs. Laura HUFF in Columbia. --Toody HAMMETT, who has been very sick, is now able to be out again. --Rev. B.B. HILL is teaching the school at this place. --Baldy KNIGHT and family from Enoree have moved here. free post Lisa
