"The Free Lance" Issue: April 3, 1903 part 2 WANT BIGAMIST RELEASED An effort is being made to have released from jail here, the young white man, Will RANDOLPH, who was committed about three weeks ago on a charge of bigamy. As is frequently the case the petition for releasing the young man comes from one of the women whom he has wronged, wife No. 1. She appeared before Magistrate KIRBY today with her petition, offering to pay the costs in the case if the magistrate would release the young man. Magistrate KIRBY was of the opinion however that he family of wife No. 2 had also been wronged and should be consulted before the young man is released. However, the magistrate will confer with Solicitor SEASE regarding the matter in order to determine what should be done in this rather complicated case. "Many a man's settled opinions are settled by his wife" On Sunday last Mr. and Mrs. HOLDEN celebrated their anniversary birthday at their home at Mrs. Lee BARBER's, five miles north of the city. Mr. HOLDEN is 80 years of age and Mrs. HOLDEN is 75, and they have 10 children and are the grandparents of fifty-eight grand children and seventeen great-grand children. All of their children are living. There are five boys and five girls. All the boys are in North Carolina except one, and all the girls in South Carolina, but one. $150 Damages for Mrs. BEACHAM Yesterday afternoon twelve jurors, selected by Clerk T.R. TRIMMIER went out to the lands of Mrs. Mary I. BEACHAM to decide a question of damages which the plaintiff asked from the Postal Telegraph Company for right of way through her property. The jury after a careful examination returned a verdict of $150 damages. AGENT IRWIN RESIGNS W. P. IRWIN, who has filled the position of agent for the Southern Railway at Spartanburg, has resigned his position, the resignation to take place within a few days. Mr. IRWIN is one of the best known agents along the line of the Southern. His ability in this line is attested to by the long term of service which he has given the Southern. Mr. IRWIN became agent here in 1881, thus having filled this important position for twenty-two years. . . Mr. IRWIN has not yet announced his plans for the future. It is rumored here that he will be succeeded by T. L. BLACK who is at present agent for the Southern Railway at Blacksburg. HEARD AT HEBRON: [March 29] --For the past 48 hours we have had a terrible northeast rain mixed with little fine sleet. It has done a great deal of damage to the fruit trees. Even the little tender buds on the trees are blown off, in some places the ground is nearly covered with tender buds. Last week we had a big rain. --Mr. and Mrs. J. M. WOFFORD are visiting their daughter, Miss Annie May WOFFORD at Spartanburg. --Mr. and Mrs. Robbie LEMASTER have moved to Mrs. Christina SUMNER's at this place. --Mrs. Nannie SHANDS is sick.
