    3. Friday, Nov. 2, 1928 DOUBLE FUNERAL HELD FOR HUSBAND AND WIFE A double funeral service was held at Waterloo Saturday afternoon for MR. J.A. LIPFORD, who died early Saturday morning and his wife, MRS. ELIZA LIPFORD, 85, who passed away in the same home on Friday. Both had been in declining health for some time and among the last remarks made by the husband after the wife's death was " I didn't know we would go so near together". MRS. LIPFORD was MISS ELIZA DENDY before her first marriage to ELIJAH MOORE and was a sister of MRS. MELISSA PEARCE, of Waterloo and M.W. DENDY, who lives with his son, J.J. DENDY, near Laurens. Of this first marriage two sons and two daughters survive; MRS. LULU CULBERTSON, Spartanburg, and S.L. and I.P. MOORE and MRS. T.A. NICKLES of Waterloo. MR. and MRS. LIPFORD had one daughter, MRS. F.K. SHEALEY, Clinton. MR. LIPFORD leaves, besides one daughter, 3 sisters, MRS. W.T. BEARDEN, Westminister, MRS. D.A. PRICE, Inman, MRS. J.C. EUSTACE, Charleston and one brother, R.D. LIPFORD, Waterloo. MR. and MRS. LIPFORD were members of the Waterloo Baptist church and the funeral was conducted by the pastor, REV. R.H. McKINNON, assisted by REV. MR. ABNEY. Nephews of MR. LIPFORD and grandsons of MRS. LIPFORD, respectively, were the pallbearers that bore the bodies of their aged relatives to their final resting places, two graves close together. ---------- HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT PASSED AWAY MONDAY The many friends of MR. and MRS. JAMES F. BURTON sympathize with the family in the death of their 15 year old son, W.H., who passed away at the family home near Union church Monday. Taken with erysipelas he was severely ill for about one week. Funeral services , conducted by his pastor, REV. H.J. SNIDER and his teacher, REV. J.N. WATSON, were held Thursday afternoon at Union church of which he was a member. Boys of the 9th grade of the Hickory Tavern high school, acted as pallbearers and the girls of the same grade carried the flowers that bedecked the new made grave. W.H. was highly esteemed by his young associates and by the older ones as well. Besides his parents one brother and 5 sisters survive. ---------- Oct. 12, 1928. CONVICTS RECAPTURED OSSIE BROWN and CLARENCE GREGORY, both white, who escaped the gang in this county about a year ago, were brought back from Danielsville, Ga., Wednesday by Sheriff OWENS to serve the rest of their sentence. It was stated that they had finished a sentence that had been imposed on them in Georgia a few days after their escape. Larceny was the trouble in Georgia, their conviction here being for the same offense. Sheriff OWENS was accompanied Wednesday by MRS. OWENS. ---------- GAULT GOES TO GANG FOR FIFTEEN YEARS After refusing a motion for a new trial in the case of FOWLER GAULT, convicted of manslaughter with recommendation to mercy, the court imposed a sentence of 15 years at hard labor. Gault began his sentence on the chain gang Tuesday. In passing sentence Judge BABB stated that had the jury not brought in a recommendation he would have given him the limit of the law, 30 years. ---------- nancie o.- { Whew..today it was 104 under my carport ! }
