In a word, no. The James who married into the large Peden family had his land in southern Spartanburg County I believe. Our James, on the south branch of the Pacolet, was in the very northern part of the county, possibly even straddling today's border with NC. Furthermore, we have compared our DNA to that of the Alexanders of Peden fame, and do not match. Nor do we match the Cecil County MD large family of Alexanders who migrated to the Mecklenburg area in the latter 1700's. Our James Sr was born about 1725. He is found in the Spartanburg County census of 1790 along with sons James Jr, Mathew and William, who were born in the 1750's. In the 1800 census, James Sr and James Jr were still there, but Mathew and William had already departed for lands west. James Sr and James Jr moved sometime before or during 1806 (when they sold the final parcel of their lands) to south of Knoxville TN, near Lenoir City. The Peden Alexanders have DNA tested two so far, the Cecil County heirs have tested about 15 now, and there is a group of 6 of us who match each other only who believe we descend from this James Sr. Thanks so much for asking. Any other ideas will be much appreciated. Respectfully, Roger Alexander Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
