This is mentioned in J B O Landrum's History of Spartanburg County, and I have found further mentions of it in land transfers. The minutes of Boiling Springs Baptist church show his son, Edmond Short Bishop, and his son, Solomon as members in 1840, but not after. Since posting this, I now believe it is over near Inman rather than B. S. where all my other Bishops lived until 1850. Thanks for for your response.
