She was a daughter of George Thompson and Lucy (Ivery or Avery. George Thompson came from Wales and sowe do not know if he and Lucy were married in Wales or in America. George was the son of William and Mary Thompson. George was either killed in the Am. Rev. or died from injuries obtained in that war. He did not migrate with Lucy and family to Warren Co., Ky. Therefore, we believe that he had alread died before that time. I have listed as some of their children as Burwell Thompson who was born Apr. 4, 1757 in Granville Co., N. C. He married Nancy Wofford and the 2nd Meg ???? Reid in Franklin Co., Tenn. He was in the Am. Rev. War. Pension # S 3801 Burwell Thompson b. 4 April 1759 in Granville N. C. wife Ann (Nancy?) In 1832 he filed for his pension at Franklin Co., Tn. giving his age as 73 years. He stated that his brother William was drafted from Granville Co., N. C. for six months and he went as a substitute. He also stated that his father had removed with his family to Spartanburg, S. C. in 1777 and in the Spring of 1778 his father sent him to Charleston wth a wagonload of produce for market. While there, "the wagon and team were impressed for public service and he drove the same." He served at the Battle of Kings Mountain on Oct. 14, 1780 and also the Battles of Cowpens, Guilford Court House and Eutaw Springs. He was the son of George and Lucy (unknown) Thompson as proved by the Will of his father, who died in 1783. His estate was sold on Nov. 12, 1783 by his widow Lucy and Burwell Thompson, who lived next door to her in Abbeville District, S. C. His pension shows a list of eight children for his parents: William Burwell, Stephen, Samkuel, Fanny (Frances), George Jr., Selah, Balaa. Although Stephen mentions ten children in his application, he does not name them, so perhaps (at least two had died by the time Burwell applied for his pension. 2- Stephen Thompson born @ 1752 married Nancy Owen on the 27th of Dec. 1800 in Warren Co., Ky. He died in 1832 in Franklin Co., Tenn. He also was in the Am. Rev. War. Pension # S 1595 Stephen Thompson was born Oct. of 1764 at Greenville (Granville ?)) N. C. He applied for his pension at Marion Col., Tn in 1832, stating he had enlisted at Spartanburg District, S. C. the place of his residence in 1778 or 1779 under Capt. Roebuck and Capt. Culbertson, and was in the Battle of King's Mountain. He also served under Capt. John Gowen. Since the war he had resided at Jasper for 15 years; Madison Co., Ky for 15 years; 10 years in Franklin Co., Tn; and then moved to Marion Co., Tn. where he presently resided. In 1836 he wrote a letter which stated that his father George Thompson, lost his life in the service of his country, leaving his mother with ten children. She had resided in Franklin Co., Tn in 1`832, but was now dead. He also sted that his brother Burwell has received a pension, as well as his next brother Samuel who now resides in the Province of Texas. He stated that he who is the next brother also had received a pension but it was stopped. An affidavit from George W. Thompson, Post Master at Pleasant Plains, Tn, age 42 years (b. @ 1794) stated he was well acquainted with Stephen Thompson but no relationship stated. Stephen's brothers were Capt. William Thompson, (pension # S 6217, Burwell Thompson pension #s 3801, Samuel Thompson, pension #S 314 20 and a sister, unmarried and aged "over 60" in 1836 who stated there were five children betwween Stephen and herself, but did not name them. She was a resident of Tennesse at the time of her statement, Burwell Thompson died prior to 1856. On June 1937, a letter from Mrs. B. K. Scott of Tallahassee, Fl. stated that Stephen Thompson was the father - in- law of William Whiddon (Whitten?) of Cheraw District, Darlington Co., S. C. Samuel Thomson - who was born in 1758 and died in 1845 in San Augustine Co., Tex. He married Precious Walford. I have no other information on this line. Pension #S 31420 Samuel Thompson b. Mar. 14, 1765, N. C. and died 22 May 1843 Notchitoches Parish, La., Wife: Unnamed. He filed for his pension 27 Aug 1833 at Notchitoches Parish, La. giving his age as above stated. He also declared he had enlisted as a private under Capt. Joseph Walford of S. C. in 1779 or 1779. He served from four to six months time, part of which was for his elder brother (unnamed( in the Company of Col. Thomas of 96th District, where he then resided. He was in the Battle of Cowpens. He had lived since the war in S. C., Kentucky, Missouri and Louisiana. John Cloud and Bailey Anderson also files for their pensions from this place. On Feb. 1847 Burwell S. Thompson filed an application for the pension of his father, Samuel Thompson (See also #S 3801 - Burwell Thompson #S 1595 - Stephen Thompson and #S 6217 - William Thompson, who were his brothers.) George Thompson, Jr. - who married in Warren Co., Ky. to Elizabeth (Smith?) - (I would really like to have information on this line. I do not have any. abc) Fanny - Frances Thompson 0 no other information on her. Solomon "Selan" Thompson No other dat (This name should be "Selah") Balaam Thompson was born June 15, 1808 who married Sally L. Mc Elroy. (NOTE: This birth date cannot right for Balaam Thompson, son of George and Lucy (Ivery or Avery) Thompson as all ten children would have had to have been born before or prior to 1783, the year of George's death unless Lucy already expecting at the time of George's death. This is probably a grandson. Letita Thompson who married Hezekiah Garrett for whom we have no other information at this time. William Thompson who died in Franklin Co., Tenn. in 1850. Pens #S 6217 William Thompson born about 1753 or 54 in Dobbs Co., N. C. died Mar. 1, 1836, probably in Franklin Co., Tn. He stated he entered the service as a Private at Wayne Co., N. C. He also served as a Captian in the N. C. Militia (Wayne Co., N. C. was formerly Dobbs Co.) He stated he resided in Wayne Co., luntil 1796 when he removed to Washington Co., Ga. and from there, in 1808 he moved to Wilson Co., Tn. In 1810, he removed to Franklin Co., Tn. where "he now resides" Thomas Finch of Franklin Co., Tn. stated on June 14, 1852 that he was the Administrator of the estate of Capt. William Thompson. (NOTE: The same pension agent that sent William Thompson's application to Washington also sent those of his brother, Burwell Thompson, Sanford Berry, Charles Pearson and the rest of the data is missing. However, if this is the family line of interest to you, I sstill have some odds and ends of data on them. NOW, Would you happen to have any information on a George Thompson who married Ester Burris in Ky. George was born @ 1800 in Ky. and Ester Burris was born Jan. 27, 1804 in Ky and they were married @ 1820 - 22. Ester died Nov. 18, 1892 in Warrick Co., Ind. and is buried in the Floyd Cem. close to Jonathan and Talitha (Bethell) Floyd. George middle initial is probably W. Now, we are wondering since George and Ester three daughter married three Bethell sister in Warkick Co., if perhaps there might be a connection between these two Thompson family lines. Bluford Bethell was born in Warren Co., Ky. He was living with his brother Larkin Bethell in 1812 while Larkin was in the war of 1812 in Franklin Co., Tn. I have heard but have not seen any evidence that Bluford stopped in Ky. on his way up to Warrick Co., Ind. to live near two brothers and one of his sisters. Can anyone give me any leads on the above?
