MARGARET COGGIN is very sick at this writing. - Service flag and memorial services in memory of JOHN H. GRIFFIN, who was killed in action October 1, were attened by a large congregation at Lebanon Church. - MISSES PEARL MORROW and ANNIE WEST left Tuesday to teach in Lee County. - MRS. E.C. FULMER and daughter, JOYCE have returned from a visit to Lexington. - MISS BYRDA HARVEY is visiting her sister, MRS. JOHN LEE at Fairforest. - J.D. ALLEN has been confined to his room with influenza. ----- WOODRUFF MISS MAE ETHRIDGE has returned to her home in Jewell, Ga. after a visit to her aunt, MRS. E.A. BEASON. - MRS. WALTER COX, of Switzer spent Sunday with her parents, MR. and MRS. A.C. HUGHES. - MRS. W.O. ANDERSON and children have returned to their home in Gastonia after a visit to MR. and MRS. F.B. WOODRUFF. - MRS. R.L. GADDY and MISS ANNIE CASTLES have returned home after a visit to relatives at Smyrna. ----- COWPENS CITIZEN INFLUENZA VICTIM Nov. 14- JOHN M. SMITH, aged 57 years, a prominent citizen of Cowpens, died yesterday of pneumonia , following an attack of Spanish influenza. Services will be conducted at the home, interment in the Cowpens cemetery. He is survived by his wife, who before marriage was MISS THORN of Chesnee, and the following children; W.C. SMITH, a merchant at Cowpens, C.O. SMITH, Landrum, L.B., Central, B.H., a soldier stationed at Camp Meigs, Washington; MRS. J.F. BROWN, Landrum, MISS BERTHA SMITH, a Baptist missionary in China; MISSES JENNIE and ETHEL SMITH of Cowpens. He was a fine type of man and Cowpens has lost a good and useful citizen. ----- WEDS IN THE CITY -Nov. 26 MISS GRACE BURNS of Campobello and MELVIN EARLE BLACKWELL of Campobello, by Judge J.J. BURNETT on Nov. 25, at Spartanburg. ----- DEATHS AND FUNERALS Nov.15- GILES E. EMORY, 16 years of age, died at his home near Moore. He was a lovable child and was held at high esteem . He will be sorely missed at home and also in the church, as he was a consistent member of Bethehem Baptist church. A few days ago contracted Spanish influenza which later developed into pneumonia. Interment will take place at the church. ----- FRANK CARR, 23 years, died at Clifton Mill No. 2, with pneumonia after a few days illness. He was buried at Clifton cemetery yesterday. ----- MISS EDNA GREER, formerly a nurse at the Good Samartan hospital in this city , died of influenza in a hospital at Leesville, S.C.
