Nancie - you shamed me into it! I will be posting information contained in parts of a newspaper published for a short period of time in Spartanburg, called THE FREELANCE. These pages were copied by someone else [and graciously shared with me] to extract weddings and deaths for publication in a genealogy quarterly - so I won't be able to post those, but there is a lot of other good information. This paper included a lot of news from surrounding communities - that gives us a little glimpse into the lives of our ancestors. I'll apologize in advance for any spelling/typo errors. "The Freelance" Issue 2-5-1904 Reported Shooting at Enoree A report comes from the Enoree Mill neighborhood that a negro boy is in a very critical condition and not expected to live. The story is that a son of Cunningham HANNA met the boy in the road and informed him that he was going to kill him. He proceeded to put his threat into action by shooting the negro in the arm. The wound was slight and the negro did not seem to care much for it. Meeting him again the next day, HANNA said that he proposed to finish the killing job. He fired on him again, the ball entering the body and the wound being a severe one. No arrests are reported here yet.
