    1. [SCSPARTA] Information on Oliver Evans, CW Soldier
    2. kenneth belcher
    3. Hi Judy I am sure you can help with the Evans. In my records I have 2 Oliver Evans. One was in the Holcombe Legion, Co. A and died of disease, 3/20/63 at Wilmington, NC. Broken Fortunes says he was age 18 and from Spartanburg. The second Oliver Evans was probably from Greenville. He was in the 16th Inf. Co. C and was KIA at Franklin, TN, 11/30/64, according to Broken Fortunes. There was a Oliver Evans in the 9th SC Inf, Co. E/I who survived. This is probably one of the other Olivers. The 9th Inf. was disbanded in April 1862 when the Confederate Army was reorganized. According to the death dates he could have been either of them. I have not shown this Oliver in my records. I show below the other Evans that I believe were from Spartanburg. Of the 6 men shown, 4 of them died and the other 2 were discharged for disability, but John Hamilton later joined the 5th Reserves. Isaac seems to be the only one that escaped a crippling condition. That is probably because I just don't have the record to show it. I have very little data beyond what is shown. John H. was buried at Oakwood Cemetery, Spartanburg, but I don't know when. He was married to Harriett D. Choice.
