"The Freelance" Issue 2-12-1904 Women Who Would Vote Washington, Feb. 11 -Battling on for the cause for which, they have made their life work and neither disheartened or discouraged by opposition or defeat, the members of the National American Woman Suffrage Association assembled in Washington today and began their thirty sixth annual convention. Mother and son are doing well. HEARD AT HEBRON -The health of our section is not good. There are lots of grip and sore throat cases. -Capt. John WOFFORD was down in our section last week visiting friends and relatives and looking after his plantation near this place. -There was a pound supper at Mr. and Mrs. J.M. WOFFORD'S recently. The occasion was much enjoyed by a large number of young people. The crockhole games were enjoyed very much. MOUNT ZION ITEMS -B. T. Cheek lost his family horse last Sunday. -W. E. HIGH has gone to Atlanta on business. -Wylie HAMMETT returned home from Inman Saturday evening. -Lester SMITH is recovering his eye sight very fast after being blind several weeks. -J. C. BUSH visited John MCELRATH's Sunday. -Andrew SKINNER is spending a few days with his father near this place. -C. HENDERSON of Laurens is visiting his sister, Mrs. D. BUSH. -Ralph POOLE paid a visit to H.A. WINGO Sunday. -Gus HIGH has returned home from Greenville where he has been visiting friends. -Miss Mamie CUNNINGHAM visited Miss Fannie POOLE Sunday. -J. M. SKINNER visited relatives at Tucapau Sunday. -The principal of Mt. Zion High School, J. Paul PATTON left Friday to attend his father's wedding at Cross Anchor. -J. C. HIGH of Spartanburg visited J. O. HIGH Friday. DUTCHMAN DOTS -Henry WESSON and Miss Nancy LAWSON visited relatives at Enoree last Sunday. -Cecil LAWSON of Vera visited his uncle R.R. LAWSON last Sunday. -J. M. WOFFORD has an attack of grip. -Mrs. Casper SMITH continues sick. -E. W. TUCKER visited his father L. B. TUCKER of Caldwell Saturday. -The King Bridge Company is constructing a steel bridge over Tygar river at Burnt Factory. New Spartanburg Citizen Greenville News: It is with most sincere feeling of regret that we have to chronicle the departure of one of our most esteemed families from our midst. Superintendent W. F. WALKER who has since June 1st 1896 been superintendent of the Piedmont Mills leaves us to take up his residence in Spartanburg for a time. [More] Laurens-Feb. 5 -J. Milton ROBERTSON, postmaster here under GRANT and all republican presidents until McKINLEY'S last term, died here this afternoon, aged 55. He was a man of excellent private character and had many friends. A widow and two daughters survive him. He left considerable property. E.L. Smith of Fair Forest has accepted a position with S. Becker. The friends of Capt. T. B. MARTIN will regret to learn of his serious illness at Fair Forest. Union, SC --Miss Ina McNALLY entertained about a dozen friends at her home on South Street last evening the feature being to finding candy hearts which were hidden throughout the house. The ones finding the most hearts were given prizes. Miss CRAVENS receiving the "Valentine" cover picture of the "Home Journal" daintily framed and J. P. PATTON another pretty picture. --Miss Ida CLEM will spend Sunday with her parents in Spartanburg. J. P. CAUBLE and family, who have been residing at Orange, Tex.
