"The Free Lance" [I tried to give the paper a new name in my last post - sorry about that!] Issue March 18, 1904 WEST END NOTES: -Miss Mamie LEONARD has returned to Spartanburg after spending several weeks at her home near Inman. -Miss Aurora GLENN has returned to her home near Pelham after spending a fortnight on the Heights. -Miss Ethel CLARK of Lenoir, N. C. is visiting her brother H. P. CLARK on Branch Street. -Mrs. E. J. SIMPSON and daughter Miss May, have just returned from a visit to Arlington. -Mrs. Caroline MADDEN of Laurens is visitng her daughter, Mrs. W. R. DANIEL on College street. -J. M. MURPH, originally of Laurens County, but who has made Spartanburg his home for the last year, recently went to Laurens to keep books in one of the mill's company's stores. HILL a traveling salesman, and family who have made Spartanburg their home for two years, have removed to Greenville, their former home. They have many friends here who will regret to learn of their change. Boyd BAILEY Still Living Young Boyd BAILEY who was accidentally shot last week by his brother near Moore's is still living. While the condition of the young man is extremely critical some hope for his recovery is entertained. HILLSVILLE HAPPENINGS: -Miss Maude THORTON of this place has returned home from Spartanburg where she has been, visiting the family of F. DOBBINS. -Rev. W. D. HAMMETT left Saturday to fill his appointment at Langston's church in Laurens County. CAVINS CHRONICLES: -Mrs. J. C. SKINNER is on the sick list this week. -Mr. and Mrs. D. E. SKINNER recently paid a visit to Mrs. SKINNER's father, S. N. THOMAS, who is keeper of the county parish. -Eddie THOMAS was on a visit last week to his sister, Mrs. D. E. SKINNER. -Mr. and Mrs. E. M. SNOW of Reidville spent Sunday night with Mr. and Mrs. C. G. SKINNER. -Miss Ola BRAGG, recently paid a visit to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. BRAGG. Miss Ola is teaching successfully near Cedar Springs. PAULINE POINTS: -Miss Ida SMITH and father were the guests of Dr. Lancaster and family Sunday. -Fred SMITH and sister of Cedar Springs visited Mrs. Alonzo FINCH on Sunday last. -Dantzler SMITH and Newton GREENE went to Fair Forest last Sunday. -Mrs. Wallace SMITH was the guest of Mrs. Ruthie RIDDLE last Friday. -Miss Ethel FOSTER of Bishop was the guest of Miss Alice MORROW Saturday and Sunday. -Ed Foster of Fair Forest, the president of the oil mill was down Tuesday on business. GREERS GLEANINGS: -The many friends of L. W. GARRETT will be glad to learn that he will not go to Texas as reported last week, but will remain here with H. W. Stur[cut-off] Committed to Jail Joe WELFORD, Ed BIRD, Earl RICE and Clarence BALLENGER, colored, were committed to jail this morning by Magistrate PASLAY for breaking into the store of J. J.
