The following article under a picture: "Furman University officials have announced that Kenneth R. Brown of Charlotte, N.C., has established the Everette V. and Dorothy Gwinn Brown Scholorship Fund at the school. The fund was established in honor of Brown's father, the late Everette V. Brown, and his mother, Dorothy G. Brown of Columbus. Ga. The scholorship will be awarded to a full-time Furman student who demonstrates financial need, exemplifies high moral characterm show academic promise. Mr. and Mrs. Brown were longtime residents of Woodruff, S.C., before transferring to Rutherfordton, N.C., with Reeves Brothers textile firm. Mr. Brown spent more than 20 years at Woodruff's Mills Mill No. 2, while Mrs. Brown was active in the Mills Mill Baptist Church. Mr. Brown, who was employed by Reeves Brothers for more than 44 years, served as overseer of weaving at plants in Rutherfordton, Itasca, Texas, and Columbus, Georgia. He retired with the Eagle & Phenix Plant in Columbus in 1981, and died in June, 1982. Mrs. Brown still resides in Columbus where she is an active member of Beallwood Baptist Church. Kenneth Brown, Vice President and Trust Officer with First Union National Bank in Charlotte, is a 1960 graduate of of Furman and has served as a member of the Furman Board of Trustees. He has two sisters, Jane B. Watson and Cheryl B. Raines, of Columbus, and a brother, Michael E. Brown, stationed with the U.S. Air Force in Germany.
